Cloned Windows from 120GB SSD to 480GB SSD and can't get it to boot

Hi there,

I hope you can help me.

I have cloned my Windows drive using Aoemi and it seems to have worked; however when I try to boot from the new drive, it says there's an error and I get a blue screen and have to re-start.

I'm not sure what to do next as the C drive is full and can't be updated.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Mark D partition active.

At admin cmd prompt, type:
bcdboot d:\windows /s d:

I didn’t realise that it was booting from disk 1 - it sure how that happened as Windows was initially installed on disk 2 SSD.
The clone was of the whole drive as I’m a relative newbie with PC upgrading and didn’t want to mess about with any settings / partitions.

I have/had the same issue so just for the hell of it I used my Paragon HD Manager to convert the SSD from MBR to GBT, disconnected the HD with the system on it and rebooted perfectly into Windows 10. Question now is how to get the HD back to a plain storage disk without deleting its contents, assuming that is needed.

Hi SIW2, I tried this and rebooted - got to a black screen with a message saying to repair windows - it was different to the first blue screen i got, so it's done something - had to remove the new SSD in order to get the old SSD to boot up.

You might need to fix the drive letter on the copied windows partition (D)
Select D:\windows in the dropdown and click FIX. nt6repair9x86.zip



Then run the bcdboot d:\windows /s d:

Hi there, I ran this and then the bcdboot but it made no difference.

Is there anything else i can try? Thank you all for your help and suggestions so far!

Assuming you are running with the same layout that is shown in post #1:

You need to make sure that d: drive is marked as active:

diskpart
select volume d
active
exit

Then you need to write a BCD to d: drive:

bcdboot D:\Windows /s D: /f BIOS

Then you need to make sure d: drive MBR has bootmgr installed:

bootsect /NT60 D: /force /mbr

That should do it, if running the utility to fix drive letter did not mess anything up. You should not have run that utility, your system in Post #1 has the correct drive letters for your setup.

The exact same thing happened to me. I used Hiren Boot PE to fix it
