Generally keep it set to automatic. However, I had crashes after installing MS Flight Simulator 2020 using 16GB RAM which was only solved by setting a much larger page file. I now have 32 GB RAM, reverted the page file to automatic and all is fine.
Kinda confused by your answer. You say you increased the page file from 16gb to 32gb but then reverted back to what? 16gb?? I'm confused by that. Would you clarify?

Steve said, that he installed another 16GB of memory to what he already had, bringing his total to 32GB of memory. Steve change your specs

He then set windows to let the system handle the page file.

In other words, he set the page file back to default.

I doubled the RAM to 32GB. MSFS then didn't need a large paging file so I set it back to auto.
