    ... bat files launched without appropriate configuration so a window does not appear ...
    I was browsing this thread and stopped at that phrase. Yesterday, I posted a request for help with a bat file (command window, actually) and I worked out my problem with a switch to a vbs script that uses my bat file.

    Now I'm wondering whether there's something else I could do with a bat to keep the command window from appearing at all.

    Would you mind taking a look at post #1 in my thread of yesterday in General Support to see whether there's something you can suggest? No rush, of course. The VisBas does it just fine, but I'd still like to learn a bat solution if you can enlighten me.

    Thanks,

    Dan

    Several options here:
    How to Run Batch Files silently on Windows 10

    Example with shortcut to a bat file using nircmd:
    Command window pops in and disappears ~3 min after starting-1.jpg

    Noting your interest in wanting the cmd window to close:
    cmd /c "C://Program Files\WizTree\WizTree64.exe" && exit

    works, by way of an example.

    Note this limitation of this approach:
    Create a shortcut to your batch file and in its Properties change Run to Minimized, and use it. The CMD window appears in the taskbar but not on the desktop.

    @dalchina

    The nircmd exe exec hide option does it perfectly for me. I had seen that in my Web searches, but I had made couple of mistaken assumptions about it, and naturally it didn't work the (wrong) way I used it.

    Once again, yet again, I am in your debt.

    This for me on my three HP machines. OneDrive and MS Office, and something else (I think Google Drive). About three minutes after boot I get up to three CMDs that popup for about one second, and then poof, they are gone.

    Thanks to all who have responded immediately above, mentioning OneDrive. I do have that on the machine in question. Today for the first time in a week or so, there was no popup CMD window in the minutes after logging in. So maybe that's it. How do I check OneDrive's update history, to perhaps confirm that's what was going on?

    Also, @dalchina you'd encouraged me to do a cold boot, then add in things to find the cause. Decent forensic idea, but since I don't sense any adverse impact from the CMD windows, I'll for the moment "stand down" and not dive in further. Your suggestions are always appreciated though, so sorry for my dropping out of the hunt.

    The fact 3 windows come up proves its onedrive up date. If you want to confirm install winpatrol Download WinPatrol

    It monitiors startup and you will see beofre it does it it will ask permission for 3 cmds from onedrive
