    Format 2nd PC

    Version 2004 (OS Build 19041.1165)

I have two PC's. One is 100% Windows 10, the other 100% Linux. The filesystems are
NTFS and EXT4 respectively. I wand to format the EXT4 machine to NTFS, wiping it
clean. What would be a good way to do this?

I'm asking here because my Linux skills are limited.

    Thanks,

    Don

I would download the GPARTED .iso file and create the bootable LiveCD, boot to it on the Linux computer and delete all partitions. Leave it blank then boot the Win10 disc or USB Thumb drive created using the MCT/Media Creation Tool on the Windows machine to download either the .iso file to create a bootable DVD or an 8GB USB Thumb drive for booting and install, let Windows do its thing. Your Linux machine should have a USB Image Writer, put the downloaded Windows .iso file on it to use as the Source to create the USB Thumb drive. I did that just yesterday to get a Hiren's Boot CD program created on a USB drive, Linux didn't care that it was Windows XP based. I also did it with the GPARTED LiveCD .iso file to create a bootable USB Thumb drive, the process is written on the GPARTED site and free.

There are procedures for Windows but sometimes doesn't get all the little partitions cleaned up.

Would that be strictly necessary? Cannot you just delete each of the existing partitions from within the Windows setup once you have booted from USB made by the MCT? And if not, couldn't you boot the install USB to a command prompt then use Diskpart's CLEAN command to remove all partition information?

Minitool Partition Wizard (free), can see, create, delete... Ext4 partitions.

To test, I just created a 747 GB Ext4 partition and formatted it. Then just right clicked and chose: Delete.
    Worked, no problem.

    1. Boot a Windows install USB (10 or 11
    2. At the first window, press Shift+F10
    3. In the Command Prompt window enter:
    diskpart
    list disk
    sel disk #
(where # is the number of the disk with the EXT4 partition on it)
    clean
    exit
    exit
    4. Your done, remove USB flash drive.

    Hi Berton, Bree and Ghot,

Thanks for your quick and thorough responses.

I will experiment this weekend and recap my success or failure.

@Ztruker's post #5 is by far the easiest way. Which is also @Bree's method in post #3.
