I put 8 pro on my wifes Laptop and activated it by the embedded activation on her laptop, then upgraded till the windows 10 ready showed up, tried to put win 10 pro on via flash drive no go, I also had win 10 home on another flash and it installed activated. I don't why it worked because I thought if it was pro you had to go with 10 pro but its working fine and activated so its a home copy now.

So if I understand what you are saying, you had Pro 8, and to get Windows 10 on, you DID NOT receive Windows 10 Pro. You were downgraded to Home Edition.

That is what I think happened to me.

At this point, I really don't know if that is something I should be bothered about or not. Not sure what the difference is on Windows 10 between Home and Pro.

Yep, like you I don't know why, I used 8 pro DVD my wife got for free from training when she was an easy tech at Staples

one difference is that updates can be managed on pro as a group policy, on both my home editions I have gone to the update service and turned it off so it wont update till I'm home on wifi, the downside to this is MS has made it so the Windows App store will not work when update service is disabled. Once I turn the update service back on the store works too

Yes, that's what I've been saying from my first post. I was thinking I had Windows 7 Pro on the computer I upgraded. I'm now questioning if I did or not.

Would be good to hear from someone who has upgraded Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10...and if they have Windows 10 Pro.
I upgraded from Windows 7 Pro on my Gateway, and of course it now has Windows 10 Pro.

Obviously you are mistaken and had Windows 7 Home Premium.

So why did my wife's 8 pro upgrade to 10 home? I wiped her HD and clean installed 8 pro then updated to Ten (I dont really care she doesn't need pro anyway)

And you say you upgraded her Windows 8 Pro through the windows update method, after failing to use the flash drive method ?

That may have something to do with it, as Derek stated you can`t upgrade from 8 to 10 using the Windows update method, according to the chart he posted.

It could have botched something, the upgrade procedure has to be done right to work correctly.

But, I have no clue why it wouldn`t upgrade Pro to Pro, both my 7 SP1 and 8.1 Pro installs upgraded fine to Windows 10 Pro.

I`m not positive, but I`ve read here that you can upgrade from Home to Pro through the MS store, much as we did in the past, using Anytime Upgrade. If it`s that important to you.

Believe me I understand, something weird happened? I tried to use the flash with 10 pro I made but it asked for a key, then put in the flash of 10 home I made and it upgraded, maybe the 8 pro updated to 8.1 when I let it update to get the validation for the 10 upgrade and for some reason it converted to home? Don't know since I did not check this out at the time.

Well, if you used a flash drive with windows 10 Home then that explains it.

And I`ve read when using the flash drive method to upgrade and it asks you for a key, you are supposed to restart the PC pull the usb stick and the upgrade will continue, but this is something I`ve read.

The flash drive method did the same thing for me on the Gateway machine when trying to upgrade from 7 SP1, but I had all the updates and reserved my copy of Windows 10, so I just did it through Windows Update and it worked perfectly, and I got my notification after only 1 day that my upgrade was ready, where I have read others have been waiting for over 3 weeks.
