    Confusion with version numbers

Updated Win 10 Pro to 21H1, but it still shows 2009. Also did the same with my laptop which has Win 10 Home. It shows the correct version, as well as it is possible to copy and paste the system info using the conveniently placed copy buttons.

With the Pro version, I must copy the info by hand or take a snapshot and trim away 90% of the image, not to clutter this post or the forum. How much film must I waste until MS standardize their software.

    Hello @ineuw,

See what results the below gives. I wrote this to run in CMD Prompt.

Copy & Paste the below command into the CMD Prompt and press <Enter>. It's very quick . . .

    Code:

    @echo off
PowerShell Get-ComputerInfo ^| select OsName, WindowsProductName, WindowsEditionId, WindowsVersion, OsVersion, OsBuildNumber, OsHardwareAbstractionLayer, CsSystemType, OsLocale
    pause

    I hope this helps.

Right click Start, click Run, type "winver" (no quotes), OK. Press shift-windows key-S, click the icon that sits at the center of mini-menu, click the top bar of the About Windows panel, open clipboard (Win-V), paste image where you want it, upload it to a post here. Done.

[Sorry, Paul. We crossed in the night.]

Hi. I have a similar issue. Winver shows version 21H1 which is correct (installed this via Media Creation Tool as the Windows Update to this version didn't work right). However in Windows Update history it still shows version 20H2.

Might check the KB number, this is one of my machines which can show 2 styles, 2009 and 21H1:

What Paul said works and I add Pause as the last line then save it as a .bat file, double-click opens and the Pause makes it stay on the screen.

Thanks to all for the wonderful, info. I checked as instructed and it indicates 2009, though I did apply the 21H1 and subsequent updates which all indicated that they were for 21H1.

This should report the Version correctly.

    ReportOSVersion.bat [post #7] - TenForums

    Example outputs

    Confusion with version numbers-os-edition-type-version-build.png

    It gets the Version from
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
    entry
    DisplayVersion

[Some other data retrieval methods still incorrectly take their Version data from the entry ReleaseId which has not been the correct source since v2004.]

@denis, you are a scholar and a gentleman. Thanks. I went to the source and DisplayVersion is 21H1, but the Release Id was 2009. I changed to see if this is what shows up in Settings.

P.S: Microsoft displays Release Id value. So now everything is 21H1.
