Jim,
I hope it does enable S3 for you.
You must have had an additional source of information because that Bios guide does not say what the Extended idle power states are & doesn't mention S3.
No idea.
- Perhaps it started out as an ambitious plan to allow computers to stay on all day that was not recognised as a flawed idea.
- Perhaps user complaints do not reach the individuals who have the authority to make the relevant decisions.

A (desperate) update to this issue:
I got the admin BIOS password for the HP ZBook laptop I'm using. And unfortunately [x] Extended Idle Power States setting was indeed a dud. It was supposed to control S3, but all settings in BIOS did absolutely nothing to this issue. I did not find three of the related BIOS settings doing ANYTHING. Spent dozens of hours experimenting.
Does somebody know whether Windows 11 has the same or different behavior for S3 and Modern Standby? So should I try installing Windows 11?
And if someone knows a fast AMD Ryzen laptop with S3 reportedly working in Windows 10, please name the model and I'll probably get it to get rid of this terrible, terrible problem.
Perhaps you could post in the HP forums, there's a link to them on their support webpage.
I have not seen anything in ElevenForum on his subject yet.
If you do post a question there, please post a link to it here so I can watch it.
I've made a decision, for future purchases, to insist on being given the powercfg -a results before I spend any money.
I doubt that I'll get much co-operation.
Like you, I think S0 is awful.
Best of luck,
Denis
I haven't tried the HP forums yet, but HP support gave 0 help in practice. They did answer my calls, but in the end they didn't have any useful information, just general "update drivers" and other useless distraction (I did update all possible drivers and BIOS, no change whatsoever).
Does S3 sleep work in Windows 11? | Windows 11 Forum is my new thread for this in that forum for Windows 11.
Jim,
Thanks for the link. I'm 'watching' that thread.
S3 Sleep works in Windows 11 for those who had it in Windows 10. I thought you were only going to ask people about S0 in Win11.
