Hello group. I am new. Thank you, for the acceptance. I was searching and found this exact issue I was having. And I hoped we could help each other. I have this issue with the quick launch double click. I did a restore the other day, and it was gone. went back six hours for restore point. And the next day after a Windows update, it was back. It does do it more with taskbar at the top. But it eventually did it with the taskbar at bottom. I also noticed if the desktop has any app open, it works correctly. I beleive this is a Windows update issue. However I did notice an update to Fences, that happened about the same time. So I'm still searching. I'll let you know if I find out something else.

This was somewhat helpful. Windows 10 KB5003637 update could break your taskbar, printer

I seem to have a work around by moving the taskbar to the bottom, right click on taskbar then set 'News & Interests' to off! Then I moved it back to the top. News and Interests don't seem to work on the top anyway. I had it on, and didn't know it.
Thank you, @POSTec. That seems to have worked. I'll be testing it for awhile longer, though.

Well, well! I was wondering whether that new nuisance (N&I) had anyhting to do with it, and it may very well be involved, but as soon as the thing appeared on my current machines, I used Brink's registry hack tutorial (How to Enable or Disable News and Interests on Taskbar in Windows 10) to kill it completely, so I can't say anything about what it might do to my taskbar toolbar icons' behaviour.

Wynona, you didn't mention N&I. Is it on the taskbars you're having icon problems with (in QL)?
No, I didn't because I never saw it with the Taskbar on top; it only shows if I have the Taskbar on the bottom. In fact, I haven't had the Taskbar on the bottom for quite some time, until I just now followed POSTec's instructions.

Since I followed POSTec's instructions I am now back in business with my Taskbar on top and working as it should.

I'm really surprised that so many of us use the Quick Launch Bar on top of our screens, for whatever reason. It's good to know.

The next problem will be to convince Microsoft to make it available in Windows 11! There are too many of us who actually use it!

I'm going to mark this thread Solved after I give a few Reps.

What I'm really surprised by is how annoying that new "News and Interests" thing is. It has single-handedly caused quite a lot of grief that has shown up in posts on this forum and elsewhere on the Net, from taskbars not behaving correctly to systray icons and clocks disappearing and lots more. If it has to be there for those who actually want to use it, it should not be so d___ed intrusive.

I agree, quick launch is the first thing I set up on a new PC. And I always put it at the top. This was a rather important issue for me. Thank you, for your help. And yes, I do hope they put it back in Windows 11.

At this point, Microsoft doesn't allow New Toolbars it hasn't put there, so we can't make it work.

However, I've found that I can move the Taskbar over to the left and pin apps to it. Workaround, but works fairly OK. The problem is that I don't think I can pin files I'm working on to it, though.

BTW, we should all file feedback on this issue. I know Microsoft doesn't like for us to use what they think they've hidden from us, but it's worth yelling about.

Further, we should all file feedback about the inability to create a Quick Launch Bar in Windows 11.
