    Can't enable clipboard history

    Clipboard in Settings shows On, but greyed. Regedit shows 1 for enabled. Gpedit.msc shows enabled for Allow. Winkey + V shows nothing at all.

    No big deal, but I wonder what's going on.

    Hello Dan,

    It looks like your Clipboard History settings were disabled by group policy. If so, you should be able to enable it again using an option in the tutorial below.

    Enable or Disable Clipboard History in Windows 10

    After being enabled, you should be able to turn on/off Clipboard History again.

    Nope. I wasn't clear in my OP, perhaps. "Gpedit.msc shows enabled for Allow." means I went to Group Pol and to the appropriate entry, and it shows Enabled for Allow Clipboard History.

    Correct. If the group policy is configured to 'Enabled" or "Disabled" instead of "Not Configured", it will gray out the Clipboard Settings.

    @Brink

    Thank you (yet once again!). Who'd'a thunk setting the GP entry to Allow Clipboard History would DIS-allow Clipboard History?

    The mysteries of Windows 10 are dark and deep, and you show up and solve them much better than Sherlock ever could, it seems to me.

    Elementary, eh?

    Just a thought, have you used PrntScrn or Ctrl+C to copy into the clipboard then checked if there is anything to Paste? Clipboard can save one item but the newer Snippy or its replacement Snip & Sketch can save many more, have had as high as 19 clips in it when viewed with WinKey+V. Sometimes mine get cleared during a shutdown or restart.

    @Berton

    Now that Brink has pointed out that I had to reset my GPolicy entry to Not Configured, the whole thing works. In fact, I don't depend on the native clipboard much, because I have my own Clipboard Manager in a toolbar, and its resources beat the heck out of what's offered by the Windows clipboard.

    Thanks for the thought, though.

    Think of Group Policy as the enforcer to always enable or disable and override (gray out) Settings when configured.

    Sounds like a good title for a new TV series. Oh, dang! It's already taken.
