folders won't open on desktop.

File folders on the desktop won't open. They seem to try to open then go to the taskbar where I can barely see them and cannot open them. The same issue is with file explorer and recycle. They won't open either but again seem to try to open then go to the task bar where I can barely see them and cannot open the. I have run indexing twice twicw with the delte feature. If I change the display setting to 125% everything works like normal.But the size make using them not very helpful. Ex. whith the browser open I cannot see parts or the sides and top/bottom. Any idea what may be wrong?

When you say "...barely see them...", I'm guessing that you are refering the the rthumbnail previews shown when you hover over the Taskbar icon. If so, the folders are open, just windowed off-screen.

If you hover over the taskbar icon & a preview appeears, move your cursor over the preview, right-click, and select Maximize. If the folder appears, that confirms my guess.

If you then restore the folder and it disappears, do the following while it still has the focus:

1. Press Alt+Spacebar, then M (for Move)
2. Then use the arrow keys to bring the window back onto the Desktop & press Enter.
3. Close the window to save the new windowed coordinates.
4. That should do it!

Have you got a recent System Restore Point that you could try? => System Restore

System Restore can be VERY hit and miss. When it DOES work, it should Restore any Missing System Files, Registry Entries, and Drivers etc. It will NOT however, Repair a Corrupt Registry or a Faulty Disk.

The right click does not show the explore option. System restore only goes back to 7/27 and the problem existed at least on 7/25.

So yes, they look like thumbnails. Pressing Alt+Spacebar+M causes causes the previews to not be seen. If I right click over the spacebar and get the move function they also dissaper.

Not sure you understood my instructions.

1. Launch Explorer
2. Hover over the Taskbar icon
3. When the thumbnail appears, move the cursor up so it's over the thumbnail, and then right-clck. The window menu, the same one that appears when you click the upper-left corner of a window, should appear.

1. [4]Select Maximize on that menu and you sould see the maximized folder.
2. If it appears, please trust me, we're on the right track. You can leave the window maximized for now.

1. To ensure you understand the key sequence to move a window, open Notepad.
2. While Notepad has the focus, press Alt+Spacebar, then release.
3. Now press M. The menu should disappear and the four-arrow move cursor appear on the Title Bar.
4. Now play with the arrow keys to move the window.
5. Prees Enter to set the new position.

1. Now Restrore the Maximized Explorer window and it should disappear, but will still have the focus.
2. Now execute Alt+Spacebar, <Release>, Press M, move with arrow keys, Enter

I saw Win10 folder thumbnails on the Desktop taskbar as I clicked their icons, but no folders were opening. Finally twigged that I'd physically switched off my Display#2 before closing down the night before, but forgotten to reset display options to 'Display Only On 1', leaving today's open folders trying to display on my unpowered second monitor. Red face or what?
