Hi, that looks like a blank start menu - compare

    You might try
Reset Start Layout in Windows 10

    You say this occurs
    when it wakes up
    - do you mean from sleep?

I.e. can you otherwise open the start menu normally?

Feel free to try using a System Restore point if you have enabled System Restore.
I also hope you have already started using disk imaging routinely as is endlessly recommended here (e.g. Macrium Reflect - free- + large enough external storage for disk images). If so, that offers another way to recover from problems.

    The forum prompted you thus:

    - so we don't have to keep asking endlessly- thanks.

I don't think you understand. That 'big box' is presumably your start menu.

    It's broken. Damaged. Corrupt.

What did you do that might have caused that?

And it doesn't look like you're wanting to try to fix it. So I can't help you.

    You can, of course, try
    - resetting your PC
    - a factory restore
    - an in-place upgrade repair install.

    It's your choice...

    Thanks all
it is not a big enough problem to cause serious repair actions.
    thanks
