    Screen freezes & goes dark

    Hey friends...

Yesterday I made another topic - Weird issues since last update probably ? I am not sure, if this is related to the other one or not.

Last night, I was watching some sport highlights on youtube & fell asleep, when I woke up & woke the laptop from sleep mode - I had AMD's error report tool, stating some driver had encountered problem or something & wanted me to report the issue to AMD via Bug report tool. I thought simply sending ok, would send the details to the AMD but it asked details on which application caused the issue, how to reproduce etc, when I wasn't even sure what happened - so I just gave bland answers & described it on the description section.

Around 10 minutes post this, I was working on the laptop with multiple Firefox windows opened, along with few other softwares - which were already running like skype. I was trying to type-in & screen, mouse froze. I thought may be FF got hung-up or something, so thought of waiting for few secs to wait it out. Instead of them releasing from freeze mode, my screen went totally dark.

I didn't know whether the explorer crashed or what exactly happened, I waited for few seconds & did a hard shutdown using the power button. Upon reboot I have no issues so far. Is there a way I can check, what exactly happened ?

In the bottom left Search box, type in ---Reliability History---and open it .There should be entries covering the problem times and in the ---view tech details---lines 1&2 will give searchable information.
Then in the Search box, type in ---dxdiag---and in the Display page, note the Driver details,[version, date etc],look through the other pages as well.
Visit the maker's site only and download that driver,or a later version if available.
Go to Device Manager and expand the Display Adapter, then uninstall the driver and install the downloaded one.
Freezing has many causes, the most common one is driver malfunction and is the simplest to start with.

Hi Joe, thanks for your prompt response. I just went into Reliability History & found the cause as "Hardware Error" - attaching the details below.

The first one shows at 7:07 AM, I was sleeping around that time, the next one shows at 10:01 AM, which is when the system froze - like I stated, 10:02 AM is the time I turned off the system.

This is the 1st time I am noticing hardware error on the reports, all of the rest issues are some application not responding.

I haven't checked out your other solutions yet, just thought of dropping this msg - if it somehow broadens on what I should look into.

The hardware error reports indicate either a cooling problem or battery or both.
If you open the command box, type in---powercfg /batteryreport---after viewing it,then,---powercfg /energy---and this might give some useful information.
With regards to the cooling,it is a common problem with laptops and recourse to the maker's forum could help.
I don't have a laptop,so am not best placed with respect to cooling issues.
Both problems may be alleviated by not leaving the laptop running when not in use,but is not a satisfactory solution.

Thanks Joe. I couldn't find any major abnormalities in either battery or energy reports.

My laptop has just 2 USB ports - one is connected to wireless mouse & another to cooling pad (2 fans). Most of the time I use laptop in the AC, very rarely on battery. I don't use AMD Link Emulation, as I hardly play games on this system.

Attaching my reports just in case I missed anything in them.

And yeah I did search for the drivers in dxdiag & see most of them seem to have been updated lately. I have Windows up-to-date, to the releases that reached me & also AMD also up-to-date version 21.7.2 (updated around 12hrs ago from 21.7.1)

By googling I found out LKD_0x141_Tdr:6_IMAGE_amdkmdag.sys might be a graphic driver issue related to AMD. Since, I had only twice y'day - before the system was rebooted - thought of not going after aggressive steps unless I keep having these errors regularly.

Intermittent freezes can often be cleared by uninstalling and reinstalling the Display Adapter driver.
When a signal is sent to the monitor, there is a default time in which it must be processed otherwise the freeze occurs.
This time,Timeout Detection and Recovery [TDR],is normally 2 [two]seconds and can be checked at-
    hklm\system\currentcontrolset\control\graphicdrivers.
It wouldn't hurt to uninstall/reinstall a replacement driver. The time taken is minimal.

Hey Joe, I tried updating display adapters from device manager - once again system went dark. Did hard restart again, then found out I have a conflicting version of display adapter & AMD Radeon. So, I downloaded their installation tool & reinstalled all the drivers few days ago.

Since, then I haven't had any black screens or issues so far. Will keep the thread updated - if I face issues again.
