Weird screen taskbar icon issue since latest update

    Hi,

I have a bit of a weird issue since the latest Win10 update. I have 6 screens. The bottom middle one is my primary. Win key opens up the start menu fine on the primary screen. However, my "pinned" apps now show on the top right screen! They used to show (correctly) on the primary. Please see attached screenshot

Is this a known bug? Any way around it?

    Win 10, ver 19043.1110

    Thanks!

    @youradds

I'm betting it has something to do with these two settings...

Obviously with only 2 screens... there's no way I can reproduce your setup.

Thanks for the reply @Ghot . Unfortunatly, that doesn't seem to help. I've put up a screencast of me playing with it:

    screen example - YouTube

Really baffling - as it was working perfectly. If I turn off "Show taskbar on all displays", it defaults to the top right screen - even though its not the default

Is it possible the top right somehow changed to be the default screen?
Did you switch any cables around?
I've got an RTX 2070, and depending on which cables I use in which ports on the card... it can switch the primary monitor.

Did you try the setting in the 2nd red circle in my pic?

Show taskbar buttons on: Main taskbar and taskbar where window is open.
I'm assuming "taskbar buttons" = pinned apps

I'm thinking there should be an: Only main taskbar option.
But I didn't see that on my comp.

I know one thing for sure. If you turn off the Show taskbar on all displays... that will work.
Normally, I have the taskbar ONLY on my primary monitor.

    /edit

I guess it's possible...they changed something in the last patch?

    /edit2

I learned this last year... with my Dell and my LG TV hooked up as shown... the DELL will allow me to make it the primary monitor, and will show everything from BIOS splash screen to desktop... ON the DELL.

BUT.... if I plug the DELL into either of the blue ports on the vid card... the DELL will only be the primary when in Windows. Before I get to the desktop... the BIOS splash screen and the Lock Screen will come up on the TV...even though the DELL is set to primary.

That's why I asked if you have switched any cables around.
I can't even imagine how you have 6 screens wired up... but if you DID move any cables recently... it could be part of the problem.

    Hi,

No changes were made on the cable side. They've stayed the same for months.

Show taskbar buttons on: Main taskbar and taskbar where window is open.
I'm assuming "taskbar buttons" = pinned apps
    Yeah I think so

Did you try the setting in the 2nd red circle in my pic?
Yup - no difference (well , it changed stuff, but didn't move the pinned stuff to the primary screen :))

I know one thing for sure. If you turn off the Show taskbar on all displays... that will work.
Normally, I have the taskbar ONLY on my primary monitor.
hah well you say that - but actually it doesn't (on mine). IT *should* do that, but for some reason it's still insisting to go on the top right screen:

I'm going to check and see if there are any updates for my display drivers.

New display driver might work, IF MS did something in the latest patch.
Otherwise, I don't think that will make a difference.

I would think back to what changed or may have changed since before you had the problem and now.

Wahoo - that seems to have done it! I tried opening up my AMD driver software, and it came up with a weird error about the driver and software not matching. So I went to:

    https://www.amd.com/en/support

Downloaded that, and run the installer. It took quite a while to run (about 10 mins), but now its back to normal!!!

Hopefully this helps someone in the future :) I guess something must have changed in Win10, that caused the AMD drivers to glitch

Thanks! (now I can get back to using my computer properly haha)

Might have been a driver update in the last Windows update that corrupted your driver.

    Glad you got it fixed.
