    Explorer keeps crashing

I'll be using my computer then every once in a while explorer will crash and then display the message below and then restart explorer. I'm not sure what is causing it or how to make explorer quit crashing.

    Error Message:
The instruction at 0x0000000002930FD8 referenced memory at 0x0000000002930FD8. The memory cannot be written. Click on OK to terminate the program
I'm currently using Windows 10 Pro 64 bit version 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1110)

You could try running the Windows Memory Diagnostic. (Just type that into the search bar.)

There are stricter memory test utilities available, but that will give you a quick check. (The PC will have to restart to run it.)

It's possible you have a poorly written or obsolete shell extension (e.g. addition to context menus).

Try disabling added ones, starting with anything you don't use or relate to older or less well-known programs.

    Free tools to use:
Shellexview (include 32 bit extensions, exclude all MS ones i.e. don't change them).
    Autoruns (context menu sections)

Your Reliability History might tell you more.

I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic and it didn't indicate any errors.

    Thank you for your reply.

Unless there's a related crash with diagnostics it's unlikely you'll get anything clearer.

Please try what I suggested, together with a clean boot (google or see tutorial if unsure how).

I had the same issue with explorer a week ago. Your event log looks like mine did. Try this Go to task manager and right click select task manager look for Windows Explorer end task. Than Control Alt delete and restart the system. I can not say this will work as it did for me but its not going to hurt anything.

Even if I restart my computer explorer crashes every once in a while.

I have attached a list of my non Microsoft Shell Extensions from ShellXView, so any idea of which ones could be causing issues and that I should disable first?

Hi, thanks, as I suggested, either pick the ones that are less well-known or related to some sort of tweaker, say, and disable those in the hope that the better-known ones are not problematic, or simply disable all non-MS ones and see if there's a difference.

As with all infrequent problems without diagnostic indication this will be guesswork and trial and error.

N.B. - no guarantee whatsoever your problem IS related to extensions.
N.B. - Autoruns will show MORE context entries than Shellexview.

    But start with that.

Clean booting is another way to simplify your environment too.

Please list your startup programs. Try to note what is runninng or has recently started when this happens.

History: when did this start happening?
Just before this started, did you make any changes? Hardware or software?

Open a terminal by typing CMD in the search. than type or copy paste

    sfc /scannow

This will take a bit of time

I noticed you are using Norton 360 antivirus. I suggest shutting down Norton and keep it off on a reboot see if the windows explorer stops crashing.

Below is what I have for startup programs
    Explorer keeps crashing-taskmgr_vfrglzdzkq.png

This started to happen a day before I started this thread and I didn't make any hardware changes as I can't as my Laptop is still under warranty and I didn't add or remove any hardware before this started

I did sfc /scannow and it came back says that Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations and I have used Norton Antivirus for a while and it has never caused an issue.
