    Screwed Up!

Not sure if this is right section but a few hours ago the whole of Win 10 went config up! I had my images (in the number of thousands) suddenly change real life icons into some damn flower. I seem to recall I had this problem ages ago and you all fixed it but I could not remember/find solution. So I hit the restore button in the hope that it would do a 100% restore. Not a chance.

NEVER has system restore ever worked for me, ever. It told me it could not restore win 10 to last Wednesday (today was Sat). So I rebooted, my problem was fixed, all my images reverted to thumbnails of actual images which is what I wanted. Still not solved what actually happened, giving all image icons some bloody flower. So will need to retrace carefully and retrace my steps until I find culprit ands DELETE! In this case probably my fault, now I need to find where?

Start using backup software, like Macrium Reflect.

Macrium Software | Reflect Free Edition

Unlike System Restore... backup software works.

Doesn't really matter. I used Home v7 (free) and Home v8 (paid). Both are awesome.
Both have bootable rescue media, so you can access your backups even if Windows won't boot.

Get the free Home v7 first, till you get used to it... then decide.

I think the Home v8 trial, turns into Home v8 free, after the trial runs out.

If you mean a folder to store backups... it needs to be on a different drive than the one the OS is on.
I just made a partition on another drive to store backups on...

The ONLY thing I put on my G: partition is backups. So in my case, the whole G: partition is my Destination "folder".

Good work! As a PS; I have also experienced System Restore issues that are almost always resolved by running it in Troubleshoot mode. All settings/Windows update/Recovery/Advanced startup. Reboots into Choose an Option/Troubleshoot/System Restore. Screens will look much different but can still select point and almost always succeeds when attempting within session fails.
