Windows 10 booting on its own after updating to 20H1

Last night I updated a machine with the available 20H1 update (it's a rarely used machine).
This morning it suddenly boots up by itself. After shutting it down, it boots up after a few minutes again.

Didn't read about that one yet...

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks

Check Reliability Monitor (search "reli" or type "perfmon /rel" into the Run box) and see if it reports anything about possible causes for such reboots. Hard to say what's up without more data. This may actually be better targeted to the BSOD forum if Reliability Monitor doesn't help. It sounds like a BSOD that doesn't show a blue (or green) screen, per se.

Thanks for posting. It seems that the system was booting up from Sleep despite hitting Shut down (per event viewer). When I shut down from the log in screen, it shut down completely. Does that make sense?
BTW Reliability Monitor didn't show any clues.

It makes sense from the standpoint that one form of Shutdown access doesn't work like it should, while the other one does. Until you can get to the bottom of this -- and I don't have any additional insight on the issue, sorry -- use the login control to handle shutdowns going forward. My sympathies for your situation, but better to have a workaround than no solution at all.
    Best wishes,

It makes perfect sense, Sleep, and a Shutdown are 2 totally separate things.

Try disabling Fast Boot in BIOS. Look carefully all settings to locate it.

What procedure are you using to shutdown on these occasions?

I assume that, if relevant, you've already checked
    Control panel,
    Power options,
Choose what the power buttons do,
When I press the power button.

    All the best,

Go to Power Settings, Advanced and disable all wake timers. This should work.

Thanks everybody. As mysterious as it started it disappeared. For now.
