    How to force compliance with Local group Policy settings ?

    IN VAIN have I done the suggested registry change and also set Local Group Policy to ENABLED for "Turn off display of recent search entries in the File Explorer search box" - but search history still shows.

    Just a question for my benefit, did you first delete the items from the drop-down list in Search [I click X for each] before setting the restriction?

    I did not; I guess that is an instruction to do so...
    I have done so since (that alone, nothing else). I can highlight the remembered items, but they resist deletion.

    If I understand you correctly, have a look at these . . .

    > How to Clear Your Search History for On-device Searches in Windows 10
    > How to Clear File Explorer Search History in Windows 10

    I hope this helps.

    The third of those is the relevant article.
    It shows THIS PC highlighted, and along with HOME, SHARE and VIEW, SEARCH is a tab;

    In My case SEARCH does not a show - it is Drive Tools instead.

    So those options are not available to me.
