cannot send shortcut to Desktop and cannot create new folders

    Hi all,
    Appreciate all the welcome posts.
I'm using Win 10 Home and have reached the point where I cannot send a shortcut to the Desktop and cannot create new folders. I have checked the system files and found no problems.
I'm afraid I'm going to do a reinstall of Windows which scares me.

Can you provide more information please? Send a shortcut to the Desktop from where?

Create a new folder where and how do you try to do this?

Cannot send Shortcut to Desktop and cannot create New Folders

    Hi,
I'm using Win 10 Home and have reached the point where I cannot send a shortcut to the Desktop and cannot create new folders. I have checked the system files and found no problems.
I'm afraid I'm going to do a reinstall of Windows which scares me.

    Ztruker asked:
You asked can you provide more information please?
Send a shortcut to the Desktop from where?

    I responded:
    Yes,
I am trying to right click a file in explorer and send a Shortcut to the Desktop.
When I try that now I get an error message on the screen saying:
"Windows couldn't create the Shortcut. Check to see whether disk is full".

The disk containing Windows and all my program files is 118 GB with 29.3 GB free (25%).

With regard to creating a new folder, when I am in file explorer I could right click in the pane with the other folders and
create a "New - Folder". Now I don't get that option. Instead I get only a "Shortcut" option.
I have run SFC (no problems) and have booted in safe mode and get the same result.

Safe mode, does however, allow me to send a shortcut for a file to the Desktop.
    Thanks for your help.

The fact that it works in Safe mode indicates that it is one of your non-MS applications that is causing the problem.

You can use Clean boot procedures to identify the culprit & you can think back to what had recently been installed when the problem started.

I tried New Context Menu - Restore Default Items in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
    Nothing improved, nothing resolved.

I tried safe mode and found I could send a Shortcut to the Desktop, but could not create a Folder in my data drive.
This is a unclick and restart procedure which will take some time to find the culprit.

    Thanks for your efforts,

@z3r010 - Perhaps these two threads could be merged to avoid confusion.

By all means combine them into one.
Being new to Ten Forums, I initially posted my query to the Welcome threads.

    Oh, yes.

    Welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month so I can benefit from Excel's filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial pages are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

    - And note that you can also search TenForums threads [rather than just searching tutorials] in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
[This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]

    All the best,
    Denis
