when I type "C", it shows locations

Don't remember seeing this before, but when I type "C", it shows the locations that I have accessed in File Explorer, is there any way to eliminate them?

Where are you typing the 'C'? In the Search box next to the Start button? More contextual info needed.

Without a screenshot or better explanation we're left guessing... perhaps
Clear Search History in Windows 10 File Explorer
Enable or Disable Search History in Windows 10 File Explorer

After much searching, it is caused by Internet Explorer's history. By running shell:history, it will show the history and it can be deleted. Once the initial deletion is done, the history no longer shows up in "Run" - crazy.

This does bring up another question. I went and disabled IE in "Turn Windows features on or off" and then none of the hyperlinks in Excel worked even though I have Firefox as default browser. Does anyone have a solution because IE will be done away with in Windows 11?

When you say none of the Excel hyperlinks work do you get any alerts or do they simply not work?

Now that you are referring to Excel it might be best starting a new Thread in the 'Microsoft office' section.

Please make sure it actually describes your problem clearly. Perhaps have someone read it.
