I downloaded the WhyNotWin11 program & sure enough, supposedly, I cannot run Windows 11 on my system.

I believe (to a certain extent) that Microsoft has put out these higher "requirements" so that people w/older hardware (myself included) will go out to buy a new motherboard & then need to buy Windows 11 instead of getting a free upgrade.

Because many of us (myself included) were able to take the free upgrade from 7 to 10, Microsoft lost out on those sells, so this is a way for them to get some of that money back; since a Windows License is tied to the motherboard & not the HDD/SSD.

    Hi,
Microsoft doesn't make anything off computers unless you buy from one of their stores besides a cheap bulk oem license

Microsoft doesn't make (much) hardware & certainly not any internal PC components for those of us who like to build our own computers.

But Microsoft DOES do business w/the companies who do make PC components & if new PC components are needed to run software made by Microsoft; well that does benefit Microsoft behind the scenes.

The FX 4100 was launched 10 years ago. The AMD HD6670 CPU is also from 2011. (I see that AMD offers legacy Windows 10 drivers for the 6670, from 2015.)

My empathy is limited, I admit. I just pine away if I don't upgrade my hardware every couple of years.

Yeah, my system is ancient by todays standards & I know that I do need to upgrade, but I just wish Microsoft (& other companies we send our money off to) would be more upfront to its customers.

    Hi,
There are workarounds for installing win-11 on old hardware now
I'm sure after full release in 2022 there will be the same workarounds.

The following post suggests that the workarounds may not work in the future.

    Concern about Windows 11 Spec.
