    Windows 11 confusion

I downloaded & ran the Microsoft PC Health Check & have 2 questions.

    1. Just curious about this one.
In my attached picture, PC Health Check shows I am running v2009, but my About Windows shows I have 20H2.
I know that 2009 is also known as 20H2; but why the naming difference here?

    2. When I ran PC Health Check, of course my PC doesn't meet all the requirements (it is 8+ years old!) for Windows 11.
I was told my motherboard (ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0) does not have the Trusted Platform Module v
2.0 (which I do understand), but the PC Health Check also notes that I do not have a 64Bit CPU.
That is not true. I have the
    AMD FX 4100 - Socket AM3+ - 3.6GHz - 12.0MB Cache CPU & it IS a 64Bit CPU.
Is PC Health Check just not reading my CPU correctly?

It's not actually saying that your processor isn't 64 bit, it's saying it isn't on the list of supported processors. For Intel that currently means only 8th gen or newer, and it's simillarly restricted for AMD. The list may include some more of the older processors by the time Win11 is released. The current list of supported AMD processors is here:

I just love all this reverse psychology Microsoft is playing with the market right now.

I remember back when Windows 10 was on the horizon and the health check said their was no way in hell my system met or was ever going to meet the requirements to run Windows 10; yet I've been running Windows 10 on this system since its inception............the one in "My Computer" that users can click on to get a laugh at my ancient hardware.

Let me be clear of something right now; my computer has outlasted Windows 7 and looks to outlast Windows 10 and the only thing I ever put in the case was an SSD and a new memory stick because one failed.

So what is the Gag here? In four years from now, people that aren't running virtual environments will have to scrape perfectly good systems or upgrade them to run Windows 11?

I don't buy into the forced hand psychology Microsoft pushes to make sales and increase sales for other companies.

If my system can't run Windows 11, it is because Microsoft is feeling regretful about allowing Windows 10 to be a free upgrade for Windows 7 users in the first place and is a spiteful tactic to recoup serious losses related to the Windows 10 platform.

That's another one to add to the (increasingly) long list of requirements that my poor little AOD270 netbook fails to meet. But these minimum requirements are only imposed by the installer, if you use one of the workarounds to get it installed then you'll find that the OS itself will work fine without them.

Specs: Legacy BIOS, no TPM or secure boot. Intel Atom N2600, 2GB RAM. Even the display at 1024x600 doesn't meet Win11's minimum requirement of a "High definition (720p) display". And there are no display drivers available, so it's stuck with the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

I've been happily running the Insider Preview Win11 on it for a few days. I've restored its x86 Win10 now, but only because no 64-bit OS should be asked to run in a mere 2GB RAM. By testing Win11 on the lowest spec machine I own I'm confident I'll be able to run it on the rest of my machines, come the release.

Intruiging that it can be done, though there's then no guarantee that at some point, perhaps after some Win 11 upgrade, some obscure problem due to incompatibility won't occur. As a more testing example, I could imagine that games specified to run on Win 11 could fail on a PC running Win 11 but that in some way does not meet the stated hardware requirements for Win 11, yet seemed to meet the basic hardware requirements for the game.

Put another way, elevenforum could in due course end up with some insoluble or obscure problems with machines apparently in general running Win 11 where Win 11's installer restrictions had been bypassed.

There should be no "s" at the end.

I ordered my Dell Inspiron 660 desktop with W7 from Dell website on Oct 22, 2012. Upgraded to W10 in 2016. It has DirectX 12 (maybe). [currently: UEFI, secure boot ON, TPM none]

I think over the years that some (not all) new Windows releases have had new "requirements" that were/are more geared to Microsoft wanting people to buy new hardware than those "requirements" really being necessary.

Microsoft may not sell internal hardware products, but they do have business relationships w/the companies who do make hardware; which Windows, Office, etc. work on.

P.S. - I do believe the 8 years that PC Health Check reports, may just be my motherboard & processor, a few other components are older. So yes, my comfuser is pretty ancient by computer standards .

Oh, & thank you for the link Bree
