Do you mean a UPS (uninterruptable power supply)? Sure. But not for long, depending on the capacity of the battery in the UPS, and the power needs of the PC.

Example: I have a Cyberpower 1500VA AVS on my primay system. Supports 1500 VA (volt-amperes), or 900W. It's rated for 3 minutes at full load, 12 minutes at half load. Its battery is 12V/9 Ah, which is 108 Watt hours. Not that much, even if the UPS was 100% efficient in converting 12 VDC to 120VAC. Its capacity is basically enough to allow me to safely shut down the PC when the power fails. Not a lot more.

I live in the country and have a UPS in the computer room and another in the TV room to protect the surround system, Blu-ray & TV.

I wouldn't watch more than a few minutes of TV before shutting down.

Likewise in the computer room, shutdown asap and save the UPS to power a cordless phone.

They make larger versions of the UPS, it all depends on your budget and requirements.

Battery UPS for a desktop computer is designed to only give you enough time to save work and shutdown the computer. If you want long term backup power, you need to buy a generator - or run a deep cycle 12 volt battery (or 2x 6 volt batteries) and an inverter.
