How do you stop search in f. explorer started from taskbar search box?

Hi, I've just tried a search for a document launched from the taskbar search box, choosing 'Search in File Explorer'.

File explorer opens, and the dreaded green progress bar starts to creep across as expected.

Now, I wish to cancel that search. But I find I can't.

    I've
    - clicked x in the search box.
    - clicked 'Close Search' in the ribbon.

The green progress bar continues remorselessly...

Yet if I start my search in file explorer I can stop the search.

Can you confirm this - and offer a way out other than closing file explorer? Thanks!

    Here's another one.

It used to be the case until build 1903- after which MS changed search- that clicking in the file explorer search box caused the Search tab and ribbon to appear.

This only now appears after performing a search.

That's got to be wrong- the options should be there to help you specify the search. Thoughts?

I agree about the convenience and logic for the Search Tab to appear as soon one clicks the Search box so you get all the options in advance. As far as the Search for a document from the Task bar is concerned, I can stop the search by clicking the X in the Search Bar (the X appears about 1 second after the search has started) but not from the Ribbon (which works when the search is conducted from within Explorer itself).

    Thanks, curious difference...

Instant search results for a search on C:
Meanwhile.. I've finally been experimenting with an idea I've had for a while. Why not index all or most of C: so results are instant.. no green progress bar at all? Just like a 100% indexed data drive.

Results are extremely encouraging. Instant content search results listed. BANG - done.

I'm now selectively deselecting folders in Windows such as Program files so they are not indexed to see if I can find what led to the dreaded green progress bar if I searched from the task bar or in file explorer starting with C:
