    Alt>H>S>I (Press keys consecutively)

Alt>E>I (if you're using Windows 7 style Command Bar)

interesting ...the op intent was to program a key to perform the unselect all function with the press of a key (I already had programmed a key for the select all (ctr+a)) and your ctrl+r definition was perfect. so, what to do for the invert function? would you step me thru it? -thx

While in a folder with, for example, 10 items and 3 are selected, press and release Alt, then press and release H, then press and release S, then press and release I.

The 3 selected items will become de-selected while the other 7 will become selected.

yes, that part (the manual, sequential pressing of those keys) I know how to do. I would like to make a single key press for this - thx

Perhaps, but I resolved the 'invert selection' key press sequence with the programmable keys section of my keyboard. I'm still learning it and am always discovering cool stuff to do. I was able to program a key to do it. Like you, i.e. how in the world did you discover that sequence??!!??!! -thx
