If I decided to adopt 9 later on, it will not replace my 8.1. It will go on a separate SSD as dual boot.

Undecided, but not moving off 7 unless I have a need. Changing just to have the newest isn't driving me. There would have to be an obvious reason. A Guy
I'm about the same thinking as Bill .. its going to have to be pretty good to get me to move from 7 :)

its a whole new question as to weather I will stick with it or not.

Same here. Along with my W8.1 Pro disk, I will also keep my W7 disk at least until support for either of them runs out. My PC is a full tower so I have plenty of room for expansion.

Eye candy notwithstanding, new system better work even better than previous. Easier driver handling, DirectX 12 promises to be better than ever. Safeties built in only right places, unlike now when it's applied all across the board, where is needed or not. Even more efficient memory handling would be appreciated (it's definitively better now than in Win7). Some AI in file storage so they would not all be piled up in C: drive and at least easier to decide where to store them. That hasn't changed since the Win 95. There are changes coming to hardware so that has to be addressed too. DDR4 Ram is coming up soon, it will have more pipelines and should be able to be used by OS or there would be no improvement on the SW side if it's not handled properly. CPUs and GPUs are getting more and more new commands and if left only to SW developers we may not see much of it. There are new extensions to graphics environment like "Mantle" that OS can use to it's advantage too. As CPUs are more or less stuck to sub or less than 5 GHz frequencies, more cores are added and OS would have to be able to divide background and foreground jobs so they do not "collide" and slow everything down.
Those are just some changes that are heck of a more important than weather interface would be called Metro or modern or even what it looks like.

More than likely a yes. I have an MSDN subscription so I'll be running it on at least one PC for a test run. If I like what I see I'll likely upgrade all my PC's to 9.
Me too, will use it to update 1 machine for a "look see" and then decide. I have never "not updated" in the past so I expect I will here too.

You may want to consider updating a cloned version (on another drive) to save you all the pains of getting your Win 8.1 back in case of an unfortunate event.

I have 7 SSDs, 2 empty and waiting, in the machine, backups of backups, so I am good to go...
Your advice is excellent and Acronis True Image is my BFF.

Except for a problem in my main rig...

No boot and no fan activity (Z87-Plus)

... I have all things in order to start playing with 9 when it leaks...

I'm experimenting with Windows 8.1 in a VM right now, and I'm as surprised as anyone to say "I like it". I will try Threshold as a Consumer Preview (IF !!!! If there is an x86 build). I'll decide which I like better then.
