Creating A Second Program Files Location?

    Winver: 20H2 (Build 19042.1052)

I have a 500GB SSD that Windows is installed on. I would like to install a music program (Komplete 12) that requires over 1TB of space. From what I have researched it is not possible to move my entire Program Files directory to a different drive that has the available hard drive space for such an installation. I am wondering, is it possible to create a second "Program Files" location on another drive that Windows will still count as the "Program Files" directory? I can't see any other way to install this software. Buying a 2TB SSD is a bit outside of my budget at the moment.

During install, there should be a Custom option, or something similar.
You should be able to choose any file path for the install.

    Something like... F:\Komplete

...where F is a drive or partition where the program WILL fit.

Agreed, a Custom install should work. As for 1TB, I'd rather have a second drive at 2TB for more flexibility, especially on an older computer with a BIOS that only supports MBR formatting which has the 2TB limit. Newer computers with a UEFI BIOS can use small but also much larger which can be important. Also, a Custom install doesn't have to be in Program Files as shown in the previous reply, the Custom page gives the place to make that change.

You can create Multiple "Program files" folders on different drives for installing programs. You can name the folder anything you like and Windows won't care. I have done this with no issues. But calling a folder "Program files" doesn't give it any special status, as far as Windows is concerned it is just another folder.

But to Windows there can be only one "Program files" folder. Most applications use this for the default install folder. But most applications provide an option of installing elsewhere.

For the programs that require completely manual install I created a "Program Files (manual)" folder that is parallel to the regular Program Files folders. I have subfolders for areas like: uilities, productivity, etc.

I was intrigued by a program that requires 1TB of disc space - so I had a look, and it seems to me that Komplete 13 (info on 12 not readily available) requires a mere 290GB for a full install. See

But as others have written, a program requiring that much space will surely offer the opton to choose the install location.
