Can't Search or even open search boxes and news & weather bugged

Like the title say, I can't search anymore. usualy i just hit the windows key and start typing but thats not woking anymore. or any searching at all on my computer by the looks of it. This happened after the update that added the News & Weather button. and that is not working either. I made a short video showing my problem. My windows is in norwegian but it should be fairly straight forward to see whats going on.

The error report says: "incorrect permissions on windows search data directory"
I have taken ownership of the data folder but its still the same error.

Windows Version: 21H1

Hi, have you tried uninstalling the update? This should be relatively easy to do. I suggest you revert the ownership change and try uninstalling it as a first step.

You say you've taken ownership of a folder recently.
Is this something you have done in other cases (i.e. is it possible your previous interventions have led to problems you now have - have you been hacking your O/S?)

You haven't given your exact build as prompted by the forum (winver).

No, I haven't taken ownership before. thats somthing i searched for when trying to fix this problem.

I havent rolled back the update yet. i was hoping i didn't have to. i kinda like the weather button on my taskbar.
but i guess i like the search function more.
but i guess at some point i have to get the update anyway right? i don't install them myself. it just restarts my computer and installs them when they come.

Version is: 21H1 (19043.1052)

There is another update, just goint to try that first. or else i uninstall them again.

That update is an out-of-band optional update which should be unrelated to your issue.

Yes and no. There are ways to control Windows Updates even with Home which have been described time and again here and elsewhere, + tutorials available.

But yes, updates are cumulative.

However there is a widely reported issue with N&Interests that affects many people if they try to hide it which appplied both to the preview update and to this:
KB5003637 Windows 10 2004 19041.1052, 20H2 19042.1052, 21H1 19043.1052

- but not in the way you describe (so far as I've seen).

I rolled back the update and the news and weather widget is gone and search is working again. so thats the fix i have for now.
I guess ill just have to wait to see when theres some new updates that might fix this.

You're welcome.. there's definitely a problem with that update... we can just hope MS fixes it by next time. Meanwhile, you will need to take steps to ensure W Update doesn't deliver that one again.

e.g. hide update (block); pause updates....etc
