Page file size increases 5X after adding a bigger storage drive

Since I first installed Win 10 Pro in April 2020, my system-managed page file on C:\ was always around 6GB. With 32GB of RAM, I've had no problems at all.
Last week, I replaced 1 ten year old 1TB Seagate HDD storage drive with a 2TB WD HDD. Imagine my surprise to see my system-managed page file now at 33.5GB.
Um... I don't think I need a page file that big. Yes? No?

According to your system specs, you have 32 GB of RAM. You don't need a "System Managed Page File".

A small paging file IS useful in that it helps some program start faster.

    1. Go to Settings > System > About...
    2. Click on Advanced System settings.
    3. Click on the Settings button.
    4. Click on the Advanced tab.
    5. Click on Change. Then UNcheck the box at the top... "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives".
    6. Highlight the C:\ drive and click on: No Paging File.
    7. Highlight some partition on another drive, and click: Custom size.
    8. Type the same number (future size of paging file), in both boxes. I use 3072 and 3072.
    9. Click.. SET. The OK and Apply your way back out of each page.

Computer will want to reboot... let it.
When back on your desktop, double check to make sure your new page file is in fact set up.
With the maximum and minimum numbers, the same... the page file will never get fragmented.

Thanks for this. I do have a question, though. Why would I not keep the page file on the C:\ drive? It's the fastest drive on my machine (WD Gold 1TB). All the others are slower Blues.

I guess you could. As long as the min and max sizes are the same.
The page file is immovable. So depending on where it ends up on the C:\ drive... you may not be able to shrink the partition if desired.

Other than that, there's no real reason.
