    Welcome to TenForums @gibbsyns3,

"older kit" must be a phrase from the other side of the pond - I'm not familiar with.

    @James,
    007, maybe you can explain
In this context, the OP is saying ‘Older computers’ basically.

    thanks you - and testing

Thank you for the welcomes to @steve108;, @a guy;, @WXC, @james;, @kado897;, @bree; and anybody else i missed.

I just looked through the forum use guides and couldn't see how to 'tag' members, so I hope the 'mention' format i have used here is correct, if not, perhaps somebody could let me know.

Also, just to confirm, if I understand it correctly, there is no way to give people a simple 'like' as an acknowledgment of gratitude for a response other than the 'like with comment' to be given for actual solutions - is that right? The British in me says that it is rude not to acknowledge a reply where another member has made an effort, even if the response is not something that helps in solving the question at hand.

After a couple of days here I am amazed to have been able to contribute something of an answer to a post on an obscure aspect of fonts permissions (I work in news publishing), and by chance came across a reply to a question that will save me precious hours in my work. It's all good

Welcome gibbsyns3. There is a glitch with mentions here.. (old forums software). Only one member will be noticed by post. You can edit your post later... with each edit, one more mentioned member will receive notice

    Complicated.

As for thanks, and likes.. there is a "Thanks" button below the post.

Join us at Elevenforum - you'll have all the extras of the new software there

ha, round our way 'kit' refers to any bit of tech, a/v etc. equipment, all encompassing from a server to a usb stick. And while we are at it, you'd never guess what we do with rubbers over 'ere.
I think you walk in the rain/mud puddles with 'em.

I joined some time ago with a random question, but now look forward to a bit of community participation.

I am forever optimistic in my attempts to deliver the slickest, trickest and quickest home/small business network, despite the obvious handicaps of wanting to use hardware that really isn't up to the job combined with technical knowledge that is more enthusiastic than it is competent.

I hope I can contribute in helping answer questions relating to design software and issues (if there are any here) and sadly i have to confess to knowing excel and publisher (what?) to a level that could seem obsessive even in a tech forum.

My questions are likely to be related to networking, and particularly in squeezing performance from older kit - I don't think anyone would call me a hippy, but I do think the rapid obsolescence and junking of hardware is obscene, and often unnecessary.

I decided upon tenforums as in googling a few techy queries in recent days, the results from your forums seem to indicate a wider acceptance of varying skill levels than some others.

Why write all this when 'thanks for the add' would suffice? I'm a newspaper editor, output of text is my business.

    Welcome to TenForums, Gibbsync.

'kit' == equipment/hardware. So the phrase 'old kit' as used here means a PC that's long past being the latest spec, but in all respects can still be perfectly useable. Some like to take this to the the extreme....
Let's run Win10 on really really old hardware
I think the most recognized kit over here is the "shaving kit".
