Laptop Loses Power With Any Movement

Not sure where this topic goes so came here.

My laptop loses power with any lifting or tilting movement. It doesn't have a battery.

Unsure of its age, but it must be at least 5 years old.

Socket isn't the problem. Don't have another power cord to check this one though that seems unlikely to be the issue.

    Thanks

I know that you don't think that the power socket or the AC adapter are the problem, but I would encouage you to just try one more thing to verify this.

Leave the laptop on the desk or whatever surface it is on and don't move it. Grasp the connector right where it connects to the laptop. Slowly apply pressure in different directions without moving the laptop. If that does not cause any loss of power then slowly work your way down the cord from the adapter toward the AC adapter itself manipulating the cord in various directions. Once you reach the actual AC adapter repeat and continue down the actual power cord toward the wall socket.

If none of that causes loss of power but the laptop still loses power when you move it, then I would have to conclude that there is a problem internally. Only way you will be able to diagnose that is by opening it up.

What method was used to prove the socket was not at fault?
    The symptoms given,indicate socket,laptop and/or wall,plug,cable.
Substitution for the cable,or try in another machine, use a lamp for the wall socket and switch.
Give the cable and plugs a shake when operating.

Just squeezed, turned, jostled the adapter's input and cord and the power's still on.

I know the socket's not the issue for 2 reasons: it works for other appliances and I had the same issue with a different one.

I just picked the laptop up, moved it pretty briskly and the power's still on. Did so again with no loss of power. That would seem to mean there was/is something loose or wrong with my cord or input. Should I open the laptop and see if I can see something with the input area?

    Thanks for the replies.

Marking this as solved, at least for the time being.

Just a quick update: Lost power a few times again, once by moving the input plug. The input housing looks okay from the outside but I guess I'll check inside.

It's possible that it could be a poorly soldered connection on the power connector. That may be difficult to get to so I wish you the best of luck!

I don't think I'll see much by opening the case and even if I do I don't have the tools.

I guess I may have to get a new laptop. Any recommendations, specs? The heaviest stuff I do is watch videos and movies.

Might be something fairly easy to repair. Might be worth having someone take a look at it.

I guess i can get an estimate but it appears labor is on average $65 an hour which is already nearly a quarter of a new, better laptop. And as this one ages I'm potentially looking at more problems.
