Clone/System transfer from one PC to another MBR to GPT, BIOS to UEFI

    Windows version 20H2 19042.985

I have an Intel NUC micro PC windows 10 that has a 512 2.5 SSD in it that I use as a low powered server. The SSD is partitioned in MBR.

I purchased a new micro PC with AMD Ryzen 7 Pro as an upgrade with an NVME. As I have done many times before, I am using EaseUS System Transfer to transfer the OS from the Intel NUC to the AMD PC and it has worked perfectly in the passed. However, this time the setup is a bit different with the AMD machine not supporting BIOS/MBR but only supporting UEFI/GPT.

However, here is the problem I encounter. The new AMD doesn't support BIOS, doesn't support MBR. It only supports UEFI with GPT partitions. Why? I don't know but the manufacturer confirmed it. So when I run the EaseUS system transfer software it backs up the Intel NUC PC which is MBR, converts it to GPT and then restores the data. So now the AMD NVME machine has a complete clone from the Intel NUC. However, it will not boot. I believe it is because the proper EFI files are not present on the cloned.

So my question is, is it possible to correctly configure the AMD machine to boot with the proper EFI files? If so how? Do I need to perform bootrec /FixBoot?

    Thanks!

Can you provide a screenshot of the cloned disk.

Are you asking for a screenshot of the raw files within the root directory?

Disk management window so we can see what easeus has done.

You can borrow my boot media to have a look
    1904v3.iso
    extract 1904v3iso to bootable usb.Usb7ice.zip

Boot up the usb on the new machine and have a look. Explorer and diskmgmt are in there and so is screenrip to take pics

This is what you have to do:
    - Clone the SSD into the M.2 NVMe. Leave as MBR
    - Boot from a Win 10 installation drive, launch a CMD window (Shift+F10) and use MBR2GPT.exe to convert the M.2 NVMe from MBR to GPT AND insert a Fat32 EFI partition with the boot loader.
    - Restart and boot from the M.2 NVMe.

If he does that now, we wont find out what went wrong, or what easeus has done. We will stay ignorant.

In addition, mbr2gpt only works under certain conditions.

I am in the process of creating your boot media to get some screenshots.

This sounds very promising and will try this after I perform what user SIW2 wants because I too am interested in what went wrong. Thanks!

I could not for the life of me get disk management to pull up. I tried all the methods that I know of and none worked. So I used AOMEI instead.

I also noticed that the drive is still MBR even though I am sure it EaseUS did convert it to GPT. But I've done this system transfer a couple of times so maybe the most recent didn't convert to GPT. I don't know. . So I first tried to convert GPT using disk part and still no boot just to make sure. So I went back to the original which is now MBR again just like the screen shots. Should I attempt mbr2gpt?

You don't mention what motherboard is in the "new" computer. But if the NVMe drive is less than 2TB you should be able to partition it as MBR.

I'm running a Ryzen 3700X on an X570 chipset motherboard, and I had no trouble setting up my 2.5" SSD as MBR.

On the other hand... I'm not familiar with NUCs, but I would think it could be converted to GPT if you wanted... then cloned.
OR... partition the NVME in the new computer as MBR then clone the NUC to the new computer.

That makes perfect sense if the motherboard and UEFI wasn't completely custom by the manufacturer MinisForum. They confirmed they stripped the BIOS so that it only supports UEFI/GPT. No MBR. I had never heard of such nonsense and I am questioning why they did this but in the meantime trying to clone over. I already asked for the mobo model number and they won't give it. Said it was a secret. Seriously that is what they said in an email to me.
