I have not thought of a later version. The one I used was the FREE one. I don't think it is offered free anymore. I like FREE as FREE is good.

I also updated to Windows 10 with Stardock Fences (2.10) already installed. I got the same problem as you did where it would show a black circle with a slash through it when you tried to move anything (in to fences, or just on the desktop). The auto-arrange and align options were also unchecked.
Unclear if this has anything to do with the program though, since I uninstalled it and I still cannot move icons on the desktop and I get the same signal.
Any advice would be appreciated. I'll update if I find a solution.
I had some similar problems and turned out I had Tablet Mode turned on, turned it off and things worked.
Where do you find "Tablet Mode"?
ETA: I found it. It was already off. I turned it on, then back off. Now the problem is fixed....
SHRUGS. Thanks!!!!!!!
Doesn't seem to be it. The "desktop" doesn't even come up in Tablet mode. However, it works now and I can move icons, so I think we'll say you fixed it! Thanks!!!
You're welcome. Windows does sometimes need to be reminded what it needs to do.
This is from Microsoft. 1) Right click on desktop. 2) Put mouse on view and go down to auto arrange icons. 3) Uncheck if there is a check mark. I had the same problem the desktop icons would not move and those 3 steps fixed my problem.
Hello all,
I recently upgraded to Win10 and I have tried all the above and still have this issue.
- I am not able to turn on Tablet Mode, so I can't test the turning on/off of this feature.
- I too am using the free version of Stardock Fences, when clicking on 'Check for Updates' it says I have the latest version.
- Unchecking Auto Arrange and everything in there still results in the same issue.
Any further help would be nice.
Thanks.
