    Hello all,

I recently upgraded to Win10 and I have tried all the above and still have this issue.

    1. I am not able to turn on Tablet Mode, so I can't test the turning on/off of this feature.
    2. I too am using the free version of Stardock Fences, when clicking on 'Check for Updates' it says I have the latest version.
    3. Unchecking Auto Arrange and everything in there still results in the same issue.

Any further help would be nice.

    Thanks.

I have the exact same issue as above. Updated, Win10, unchecked auto arranged, I've checked auto arrange, tried everything. The icons can't be dragged into fences as they could before Win10, they can't be dragged anywhere.

    Julesbr30,

So I turned off Fences and noticed the shortcuts could be moved but when I turned it back on I kept having the same issue. I ended up uninstalling the free version of Fences and buying the current 3.x version and it works fine. To me it was worth some new features.

I've not had any problems moving or dragging a desktop icon on Windows 10 - but that was after a clean install. If you've done an upgrade, maybe some other installed software is interfering with this procedure. I actually have less desktop icons now I'm using Windows 10 because there are other places to put them - you can drag them into the app window instead of having a desktop icon, or you can right click on a program in the menu and pin it to either the start menu (ie app window) or to the task bar. You can also drag a program from the menu onto the desktop.

Thanks. When you uninstalled, were all the icons still on your screen, then when you bought and installed 3. you could move them into fences?

Sorry I don't understand what you mean. I just did a clean install. After Windows 10 downloaded and upgraded Windows 7, it became activated on the laptop. So I then burned a Windows 10 ISO from the microsoft site (they are providing these for you to download and burn your own dvd) and clean installed windows 10 from that, so it was like a whole new operating system and not an upgrade on top of an existing set up. Before doing that, you need to have back-ups of your current system though - eg a system image of current system, personal files backed up and saved and recovery disks for reinstall to manufacturer settings - just in case you need to put Windows 7 back how it was before.

    Julesbr30,
Yes! When I uninstalled. All the icons stays where I had them place in fences before, but obviously without the fence itself. I didn't move any icons at this time. I then installed version 3 and it picked up the fences and their icons just as how I had them before without having to redo any fence. I was then able to move them around as normal.

Caveat: I first tried to install version 3 over version 1. This uninstalled v1 and installed v3. However I could not move the icons still. So I then uninstalled v3 and made sure I had no other versions installed, which I didn't and is how I know that v3 uninstalled v1. I then reinstalled v3 and everything was fine. I include this caveat because I don't know if by uninstalling v1 first then installing v3 you will love your fences. I doubt it as I believe it keeps your preferences file intact. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

I can confirm this solved my problem too. Uninstall all the previous version of Fences, restart your computer and then install the newest (v3).
