    @rboris

Ok.. normally I use a CD for the Macrium bootable media.

BUT. I just made a Macrium USB stick and tried it. I didn't have to change anything in the BIOS.
I stuck the USB stick in, and rebooted. It went right to Macrium Reflect.
As a test.... I also restored from a backup made on the 26th. It worked fine.

Then I closed Macrium, waited a few seconds, pulled out the USB stick, and it booted right into Windows.

I didn't even have to use the F8, key. BUT, I tried that as well. The F8 key took me to the boot menu, which showed all my drives and the USB stick (only one of them), and I chose the USB stick... that worked as well.

    Question...

The backup you restored from... how old was it?

i've done two restores, with same results, from images that are less than three weeks and one month old, respectively.

OK.... if you have Macrium installed in Windows... did you try just restoring from within Windows?

It doesn't restore within windows, it just starts then reboots to boot option to proceed.

    Good point.

It seems we have either a mismatch tween the image and the BIOS settings... or a BCD issue. ?

BIOS manual and User Manual are split into two different downloads...

    Boot configuration data.

Our expert on that seems to be offline... @NavyLCDR

THAT might make a difference. If you have Macrium installed in Windows... try making a NEW USB boot stick.
Then use the NEW Macrium boot stick to restore again.

As @Cliff S said... the BIOS settings need to match the BIOS settings from when the image was made.

No it shouldn't matter specially if you already successfully reimaged.
Here are my BIOS settings that have to do with booting, you can then compare to yours.

    thank you.
    going to reproduce that.
    just got macrium v 8.
will give your suggestions and the new macrium a try.

    - - - Updated - - -

    upgraded to Macrium v8
    backup
restarted from new pen drive boot loader
    nothing.
    same.

    none of this helped.
what i think has happened is that the Sabrent boot loader and what Windows expects are not compatible.
how did this get that way? I have no idea. But it is driving me nuts and clearly above my competency to fix.
i've reset bios settings a million times and no combination clicks (as I have done for many computers over the last thirty years).
    so i am totally flummoxed.
even with the new Macrium I wind up in the same place.
yes I can force the boot loader in the bios. is that a clue that the drive is viable? I bet. but how to get out of this conundrum. i don't have a clue.
all of your help has heartened me and has been very welcome.
