that's a good question. Why I read an Asus thread and i hung myself.

no change, at all.

how do i reset bios to defaults?

can't find it.

It's on the Exit tab (Load Optimized Defaults)

You can also backup your BIOS settings on the Tools tab. (Save/Load Profiles)

If you can boot into Windows from the NVMe drive (manually), let's open a command prompt as admin, and run those two commands, one at a time...

diskpart

list disk

Are they all GPT drives. Do they all have an asterisk in the GPT column?

Do you have a link to that post in the ASUS forum?

Windows 10 - How to boot the system from USB drive/CD-ROM on the G11CD Desktop?

Windows 10 - How to boot the system from USB drive/CD-ROM on the G11CD Desktop?
If you want to boot the system from USB drive/CD-ROM, you need to enter BIOS to set up configuration by holding the 'Delete' key or 'F8' key (choose 'Enter Setup' when the menu appears) after powering on the unit.
If it's difficult to catch and the system boots to Windows instead, hold the Shift key while you restart Windows to enter 'Advanced startup' and look under the 'troubleshoot'/advanced options for the 'UEFI Firmware settings' to enter the BIOS.
1. Once you enter the BIOS configuration, please go to tab [BOOT].
2. Select 'Secure Boot' and change the 'OS Type' setting to 'Other OS' to disable secure boot. Hit the 'ESC' key to return to the previous Boot menu screen.

3. Also, under the boot menu, select 'CSM (Compatibility Support Module)' and confirm the 'Launch CSM' setting is on 'Auto' (which should be the default) or that it is Enabled.

4. Make sure the USB drive or CD/DVD disk you want to boot to is inserted/installed before pressing F10 to save and exit the bios settings, otherwise, your boot device/disk may not be detected.
5. You can boot the system from USB drive/CD-ROM by the following three methods. Be aware that you would see 2 different boot options for your boot device so make sure to select the correct one or try both UEFI and non-UEFI boot options if you're not sure which is correct..
(1) Enter BIOS -> Select [Boot] -> Select USB drive/CD-ROM under the [Boot Override] options
(2) Enter BIOS -> Select [Boot] -> Change the boot device priority so that your USB drive/CD-ROM is the first boot device. Save and exit bios to keep this setting but you may want to change it back later to avoid booting to external devices/disks accidentally when they are plugged in/installed.
(3) Hold and press the [F8] key while you press the power button to turn on the system. You can select either UEFI or non-UEFI boot device from the list.

Are you SURE you ran that Fix windows boot problems tool from the Macrium bootable media?

Brb, I'm gonna check something in MY BIOS... well, that didn't help. :/

I do see what they were saying in that forum post. In the future, instead of changing the BIOS settings, to boot from something like a Macrium USB, just hit the F8 key and choose: the Macrium USB.

Yeah, I'm flummoxed too. I've never had an Intel CPU, so I've never had that "boot manager" entry in the BIOS.
On a guess... in the Boot Option Priorities... try putting the NVme drive first and the boot manager 2nd, and see what happens. If that doesn't help, put it back the way it was.

I always run Windows on an MBR partition, so we're getting a bit out of my experience. :/

Relatively new computer: ASUS Maximum XII; i910900k; Sabrent Rocket boot NVMe. Windows 10 Professional all updates.

My Windows system, even with all anti-virus safeguards plus Malwarebytes, was hit with a virus. And the machine has acted flaky since (even though I removed the virus).

As usual I have regularly backed up my machine with Macrium.
I reset the machine with an image that pre-dated the virus. Thank you Macrium!!
To do that I had to enter the UEFI bios and reset some parameters such as secure boot to “Other OS” etc. (following an Asus advisory).

Problem began when I tried to reset the machine back to its previous state from the bios (Back to Windows from secure boot; turn CSM off; back to Sabrent as boot drive).

BUT NO GO.
No matter what I do, I am not booting to the Sabrent; the machine boots to the pre-bios choices and I have to press F! to enter the bios. Once in the bios I have to manually type the Sabrent under boot override settings. Then it boots.

So clearly Macrium did its job; the Sabrent is intact with the new image and I can manually boot to there.
But not automatically.
Please help!!
Thank you.
If your Macrium recovery media(USB or Boot option) was created while bios was in secure boot mode, not CSM, you should have just booted to the media, no need to turn on CSM at all. The recovery media will have been created GPT compatible.
So try recovery again but with your normal bios settings.

In fact secure boot is better as it checks for, and protects against rootkits when you have the CPU's TPM turned on.

Translation...

Set the BIOS settings back to your normal settings.
Plug in the Macrium USB stick, and this time... hit the F8 key and just choose the USB stick to get into Macrium.
If you hit the F8 key a few times, just like you would hit the DEL key to enter the BIOS, it will bring up a boot menu.
You should see the USB stick. If there's two of them, choose the UEFI one.
Then restore from your backup... again.

When you exit the BIOS does it say Save changes and exit or does it say No changes made?
