Arrange Desktop Icons (My Computer etc) automatically

I am trying to find a way to enable some desktop icons like "My Computer" and "My Documents" along with "Recycle bin" to arrange themselves, or force their positions.

The recycle bin is usually in the top left so that doesn't matter much in this case,
but when you enable the others they will be put in the first available place (starting from top left).

I want them to be set right after the recycle bin and if there's anything there i guess just push them up the list.

I have searched around a lot, even trying to programmatically do it, but it seems to be way harder than i thought.

I'm guessing W10 desktop acts much like W7 desktop. @Paul Black -- I think OP will get what's wanted by turning off Auto-Arrange. I think Auto-Align can be either off or on. With the Auto-Arrange off, OP can move desktop icons to wherever is desired?

I took some screenshots to show.

Imagine the first to be how it may currently look.
Just enabling the extra icons causes it to become like the second image.
But what i want is for it to become like the third image.

Notice that extra "compressed" icon still being in it's original place, hence just forcing a sort isn't wanted.
I want the minimum "sort" possible so to speak.

The one thing to keep in mind is that the desktop is Dynamic, not Static like a picture hanging on a wall. The desktop is always being redrawn/refreshed, is held in memory and many things can cause a change in it.

Yeah know that many things change the positions, like different screen resolutions etc.
the idea here is to just set those icons to the beginning when they first appear, if the user later changes anything etc isn't accounted for.
So it's just "enable the icons -> push them to the beginning",
So basically if i know a way to move specific icons to a certain position, i can probably do the rest,
but i just don't know how to do that, the things i found was using "SendMessage" via winapi, but that just works on some windows version, and windows 10 isn't one of them apparantly.

I use DesktopOK to save the desktop icon positions since Windows has a habit of scrambling them

I have my icons set like this... and as to which icons are in which order, I just left click, HOLD, drag, them to the order I want.
Once set like shown below... they've stayed that way for over a year now.
Occasionally a new shortcut (created by a 3rd party installer), will appear above the Regedit icon.
But once i, left click, HOLD, and drag to a new location... it will stay in the new location.
All other NEW icons, appear beneath the last icon on the list.

It's been this way since Windows XP.

I don't know of any way in Windows 10 to automatically arrange the desktop icons in various configurations. You could try a third-party program, Stardock Fences, to create fixed groupings of desktop icons. You can define rules that say "Any document files go into THIS group" or "any JPEG files go into THAT group" and so on.

Right click on empty space on your desktop, select VIEW then enable Auto Arrange Icons
