Onedrive keeping secret copies of deleted files

    Good morning all,

I have a security issue with Onedrive.

    - I delete files on my phone, or move them out of my Onedrive using my phone. Using the app.
    - Then I delete the contents of my online Onedrive recycle bin (which contains the files I previously deleted). Using my browser.

One would think the files are gone.

But when firing up my notebook a week later I still get the option to restore the files.

Seems impossible to delete files in a secure way because Onedrive always keeps a copy in a secret hidden place,

Thanks in advance for your help and/or suggestions.

Hi, similar here: solved by online access to Onedrive account:
    Unwanted folders

open OneDrive in a Browser and see if those folders exist..... if so delete ... on OneDrive.

    Thanks Dalchina

I am a bit confused. These files are not stored in the folder My Pictures or My Videos. They are in a OneDrive folder that I created.

    a. Can you log in to your Onedrive account via your browser?
    b. Can you see the problem files?
    c. Have you deleted them as seen there?

May I request to screenshot the affected folders?

It seems you've done most of this.

On how many devices does the same item exist? Have you deleted it from all?

Are you syncing devices in a manner that could explain this?

For now I have stopped using Onedrive. Just now it put back confidential deleted files I already deleted and cleaned out of the trashcan. At the moment I can not trust Onedrive anymore :-(

Files are online, laptop and phone.

Have you deleted it from all?
That should not be necessary. When I deleted it from my phone and clean the Onedrive Recycle Bin online it should be gone. At least as soon as I fire up my laptop the files are gone as well.

Problem ist that Onedrive keeps a secret copy , even gives me the option to restore the files.

Just now Onedrive put back about 1000 confidential files I deleted a week or so ago.

I think Onedrive is not secure. It always keeps a secret copy in a secret location the user is not ware of
