Onedrive keeping secret copies of deleted files
-
At the moment I can not trust Onedrive anymore :-(
Really, you can not trust an online cloud service, which browse your private files and report them to the police, if if deems them suspicious? Always encrypt confidential files and file names, before upload!
Onedrive has also a personal vault, where you can save more sensitive files, 2FA required to unlock.

Hi Tariku
Thanks for your insight.
I do not encrypt files that are only classified confidential.
Problem is not that I do not trust the cloud.
Problem is that Onedrive keeps a copy in an unknown place and copies the files back unexpectedly although they were deleted and the Recycle Bin online was emptied as well.

I hate One Drive and always uninstall it. It's also a resource hog.

I'm trying to duplicate this behavior, but not having any luck.
I went into ONeDrive from my PC, Created a folder called testfolder.
Created a test file called test1.txt inside of testfolder.
Saved the file.
Deleted the file from my computer, and got the warning. "Files you delete from your OneDrive are no longer avaialble across your devices or on the web. You can restore them from your OneDrive recycle bin within the next 30 days".
I then went into the Recycle Bin in OneDrive, marked the file, hit delete and accepted the warning that I was permanently deleting it. It's now gone from my OneDrive and my OneDrive recycle bin.
HOWEVER, it IS still on my local workstation in it's recycle bin till I clear that out.

Hi PP
Please be aware that I use two devices. I delete file on my phone, empty recycle bin bin online using my phone. Then fire up the second device , a notebook in my case , a long time (often weeks or more) after deleting the files.
