Windows 10 Lite - Ghost Spectre

Here's a link for a more detailed look into the Build of Ghost Spectre To answer your question I installed Superlight Pro with Defender. I'm doing a System Image as I type and am going to run a clean install of GHOST SPECTRE to utilize my full system. It was quick in the VM! But I think I'm going to be pleasantly surprised When It utilizes my full system. I'll post back when It's all complete.

Well I finally got to installing Ghost Spectre on my main system. "Life Gets In The Way" The install was amazingly fast. NO Joke! At the most 10 minutes. But that's on my system, yours may differ. I was right about utilizing the full potential of my system on this build. Fast compered to the default Win 10 install. I know you have seen my system specs but Some may be better then my specs and will get different results. Spectre installed My GPU drivers but I installed the most resent to get all options. Everything ells was spot one. I am really disappointed with Chrome. I installed it and still, at times have "Waiting for Cache" And Windows Locks up. Not for long, 30 to 45 seconds. An entirety in today age. I didn't want too but I went back to Firefox. No real big deal. I think of it as a welcome back home thing. Firefox and me go way back. I installed my essential apps and that brought the process count up. After Firefox I have no more issues with "Waiting for Cache" I like the way everything fell in place during the install other then installing the GPU driver as I would recommend doing anyway. Well time for a screen shot. Just One. Any more just ask.

Buy the way. The only beef I have is that you only have Administrator as an option to create you account at install. That's odd. You can create an account in the usual way but. Should you have to?

That's interesting, the updates are meant to be turned off unless resumed by the user, perhaps it only keeps automatic updates open for drivers for more amateur users who aren't familiar with installing drivers. It's meant to behave like default windows without the bloat. So still has some order in how it runs I guess.

Sorry I don't understand what you mean by this, because I use Google Chrome, are you saying you had issues with chrome on this windows or is it a general chrome thing? What is this waiting for cache thing?

I believe that only happens when you install the Superlite SE Edition. If you install the Compact Edition or maybe even the standard Superlite Edition then you get to make a user. I'm not sure why this is this way, it might be a technical thing. I am currently trying to get one of the moderators who help with the ISO to help answer some of those more technical questions :)

Edit: The Standard Superlite Edition also doesn't allow you to make a user on first install, must just be the Compact Edition.

Did you try using the Toolbox that comes with the OS at all? For example to install C++ and .framework.

I'm going to install the OS tonight and write a review on my experience as well. I'm going to go with the standard Superlite Edition. Thank you for trying it out and posting your experience! Glad to see its running real well!

---------------------------- Windows 10 GHOSTSPECTRE review - Superlite + Defender Edition ------------------------------

Introduction:

Successfully installed the Windows 10 Pro version of the OS, then with the drivers and have had 0 issues so far. Honestly, it almost feels as though it went...too well, everything just happened so quickly, wasn't waiting around for anything, it was definitely snappy, and this is on a hard drive. Wanted to test it on my HD before I setup my SSD. My fallback was waiting on Default OS 21h1 if this OS didn't go so well.

Usually with default windows I go through at least a few restarts, updates, just a lot going on, not on this one.

Only struggle was trying to figure out that I had to disable secure boot to install via the uefi method. But that's because of my amateurishness .

Installation:

The installation was just as @Lance1 described. The entire process took 10 minutes, mind you, this is on a hard drive. 5 minutes to install windows then another 5 minutes getting to the desktop. I timed it .

Drivers:

Installing the drivers where also really easy, for a system as old as mine, no issues, installed and restarted all fine.

Updates:

Once I had installed my drivers and connected to the internet the only update that automatically began updating was the intelligence update for Microsoft Windows Defender (KB2267602). After that updates where paused unless I resumed.

Activation:

Windows was also activated with a digital licence once I connected to the internet.



Size and Performance:

The size of the OS was pretty small, great if you only have a 120g SSD like me, I can't remember how big windows default was, here are some screens of the size without anything installed, not even the drivers, plus some performance tabs. The ram usage would go from 1.3 to 1.5.




Preinstalled Programs:

This was my favourite part as the OS only came with 2 programs 7zip and CPUID. Nothing else installed, didn't need to spend an extra 20 minutes individually having to uninstall each and every program like I do on every fresh install. Would have liked it it was completely clean but can't really complain. 7zip I would have installed anyways, CPUID I will just uninstall. But I know those programs are really popular and solid so most others would probably install them anyways.

Extra Notes/Tidbits:

I was surprised to see that windows photoviewer came up when I clicked on a image. It was a nice surprise, can't remember the last time I used this to view a image, but it was a fine surprise, i usually switch my default image viewer to paint as its faster and snappier to view images, the default windows viewer always took way too long for me, felt cumbersome in general.

One thing I didn't really like was the fact that the privacy settings for the apps where all turned on, actually not all, but around 80%. This could just be me but I'm not a fan of having them on, letting apps have access to them, after a fresh install I immediately turn everything off. There may be a reason for this but I personally would have liked to have my windows permissions and apps permissions under privacy all turned off.

Another small thing I noticed was the lack of a popup when you eject a usb, the message that says "usb is safe to remove". This might have been on purpose as this OS is supposed to be superlite, its a small thing but I like that confirmation before pulling my usb out :).

Conclusion:

So far I have had 0 issues, everything is going well, as I said, a little too well, maybe I'm just being pessimistic, but this is new territory so you never know. I will continue to update my progress with little things that I find and come across and report any issues or moments of interest.

Things to check out and report on:


1. Need to look into the toolbox that comes with the OS and use that to install .netframework, direct X as well as c++ updates. Not sure if I need this from the toolbox or if I can install it from their respective websites. Will ask the moderators to confirm. The Toolbox could just be a convenience thing or could be necessary in the way this OS operates.

Update: .net framework and direct x 12 seem to come preinstalled, only need to install c++


Suspicions and uncertainties:

After I installed Kaspersky, after I while I received a popup regarding Account Control (UAC). Not sure what this is about. Never came up on default windows.

7.8 GB, Impressive

You may find some things you`ll have to turn back on manually, but it`s no big deal.

You can modify your windows after install or you can modify your windows iso. DISM commands are very useful for them.
There are guide's of Brink about them.

I uninstalled all uwp apps and edge chromium
It is my C: drive , CAT,MIP,NET,PRG are my personal program folders, the other files and folders are from Windows System.

You can also use nlite or something.

I'm not a Kaspersky fan. I used it in the past and was never happy with it. Besides Defender has improved leaps and bounds. If you use Kaspersky disable Defender. Your review by the way... All I can say is WOW!! Impressive to say the lest. You have this old man beat. You have 7.8 GB on a clean install, I didn't check my total at first install but after reading you review I checked and after all my essentials were installed I have 21.7 GB used but I did install some hefty apps. To address "Waiting for Cache" it is a real issue with a lot of Chrome users but not all. My laptop runs Chrome with no issues so YA! Like I said after running Firefox I have had no issues with "Waiting for Cache". Do some research on it you'll see."You Do Know How To Research Don't You???" As for the GPU driver install, I think the builder set it install drivers only just to get you up and going. What you do afterword is your call. The Ghost Tool Box! No I haven't jumped into it yet BUT! I Will... I'm having fun with this build.
