Hi, if you have a MS live id and use that to log in, you can reset your password on line.
    Reset your password

PINs do not truly replace passwords - the password is still required in certain circumstances even if you've chosen to use a PIN. The password is the permanent thing that remains.

For example, in your case using offline System Restore could have helped. But you'd need a password for that.

I have a Macrium image done a couple of days ago. Can I restore only my C drive, which contains windows, or does the image restore every drive?
When restoring from an image file which contains images of multiple partitions, you have the choice of which partitions to restore. E.g. by drag 'n drop on the GUI.

You can see that by searching for information on restoring from a Macrium image.

The problem with resetting the password, which I have done, is that Windows is stuck in diagnostic mode and doesn't recognize a new password.

Thank you for your reply and clarification of that.

Then you can proceed with restoring an image.

Not sure why I blocked out the easiest solution. Not enough sleep last night! Thanks again.
