Really don't know what to do.
I don't think anything is going to fix it because I think it is driver-related.

You mentioned Reset Windows 10 - TenForumsTutorials but I do not think it will help.

"You'll just have to live without sleep or hibernate.", is not an encouraging way to end the discussion but I think it is true.

I should also have started off with:-

    Welcome to TenForums.
It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month so I can benefit from Excel's filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at www.tenforums.com/tutorials

You were very right, indeed it is a some sort of driver.
I had a hard drive with windows 8.1 on it, I hooked it to pc, loaded up the windows 8.1 startup menu and then put pc into sleep 3 times in a row on win 8.1. NO ISSUES!. To rule out PSU or some other failing hardware.

    It's windows 10 and a driver conflict, 100%
Finding out what driver it is, is a big challenge.

Try using the Windows 8 display driver in your Windows 10 installation.

If you do not have that driver's installation file, just note its Version and it will probably still be available in Dell drivers & downloads if you select the OS as Windows 8.

Backup and Restore Device Drivers - TenForumsTutorials apparently works in Windows 8 as well.

I looked into minidumps from crash using WhoCrashed software, and it shows that
PNP_ DETECTED_FATAL_ERROR was caused by dddriver64dcsa.sys (looks like its some sort of dell driver, but not sure what it does and how to properly remove it without causing much trouble)
PNP_ DETECTED_FATAL_ERROR was caused by ntoskrnl.exe

You could look for dddriver64dcsa.sys in C:\Windows\System32\drivers, right-click on it, select Properties, select the Details tab. See if any of the details help to explain what driver it is part of.

Then confirm its identification by going to Device manager, double-clicking on the hardware you suspect, Driver tab, Driver details button and look through the list to find that filename.

You could then consider, on the same Driver tab, uninstalling the device and waiting to watch it get re-detected and reinstalled by Windows. Windows is liable to use the same or a later driver but might use a default one by MS. Perhaps the replacement might avoid the problem.

You do have a recent system image and you have recently tested your imaging application's boot disk?

    SOLVED!
Denis, like you've said, I checked the driver details it was suggesting Dell Data Vault. I went into Device manager---> system devices--> and saw TWO Dell Data Vault Drivers. I disabled both, after restart one of them was ENABLED, but the other stayed Disabled. I removed the driver that stayed Disabled and now Sleep function works.

Who could have guessed it. Dell's bloatware messed up 3 days of my life.

Dell Data Vault is apparently a component of the Dell service application, Dell support centre. Given the age of the computer, I imagine you could just uninstall all your Dell utilities because they are not going to be doing anything for you.

I don't understand why they have implemented it as a [virtual] hardware item.

How do you uninstall the Data Vault - Dell user forums - The instructions seem sensible [not always the case in their forums].

I think you updated from Windows 7/8 and have never reinstalled Windows 10. If you are ever considering a procedure as drastic as resetting Windows 10 then do consider a clean install instead - once you have backed up your drivers.

Please consider posting any advice you can about using Who crashed -
Windows intermittently shuts down after entering Sleep Mode
