My PC was stolen along with my copy of Windows 10.

I have a copy of my firefox profile on a laptop which I used to copy passwords ect onto my new pc. Can I get back my activated windows 10 with access to my microsoft account? Also when I installed a fresh media creation tool copy of windows 10, it mentioned a location tool to find your device if its stolen.

Windows 10 installed yesterday (ver 20H2).

Your Windows 10 activation applied to the activated computer only assuming that Windows 10 came preinstalled on your computer when you bought it.

You can access your MSAccount from anywhere.

What would you do with your old license for Windows 10? In other words, what good is an old license for Windows 10 without a computer? Your replacement computer comes with a new license.

Are you instead referring to your Windows account? If you are, then that is your account for life. Just get to a different computer ASAP and change your log in password.

When you did that, did you set a master password?

If not, I strongly recommend you change any critical ones immediately.

If you’re going to use the Firefox Password Manager, we highly recommend that you apply a master password to your stored usernames and passwords. Without a master password, if someone gains access to your account, they can easily open the Password Manager and view your passwords. To add a master password, open the Options dialog box again and select the Use a master password check box.
The location tool is effective in locating your device if it's switched on and booted up but not logged in.

I have 2 PCs both so registered using my MS live id. This one is on, the other not. The other can't be located- this one can. I've just switched the other on but not logged in to check that - it was located after being switched on for a few minutes.

The location found for the one using Wifi is a nearby street, the other, using ethernet, was found a few streets away in the other direction.

I can see it here when I log into a particular Microsoft account: https://account.microsoft.com/devices
It appears I do not have location finding on. Can Microsoft help?

Just to confirm, have you clicked 'Find my device'?
My PC was stolen along with my copy of Windows 10.-1.png

If it's set up you then see the registered device(s), & a map showing the approx. location, and these options:

I can confirm I have tried clicking on "find my device". BTW this was a completely custom build so no preinstalled OS. When I click on find my device it shows a location of Kent, England but no more than that (it could just be related to my current IP).

Doesn't sound as if it knows anything about your PC. I see rectangles with the PC names, and dots with those names beside them on the map- 1 of them is the PC I'm using.

Find is only effective if the target device is switched on and boots up at least to the login prompt.

    Hi,

I have nothing to offer but my commiserations, was it a laptop or PC?

But I do recommend you follow the advise dalchina has given, any critical passwords you should already be changing, don't mess about, change the damn things pronto!!

And even then, location it's not an exact science, it may reunite or give an owner some idea where to go looking but in most cases at least here in the UK, the police won't act on such information to recover unless say violence was used in its theft.
