Screen resolution and desktop photo changed 5/7 upon login

5/11/2021 update to original post below. Updates in red.

One of the weirdest unexplained/unexplainable things I've ever seen.

I have 20H2, and the last update of any type was KB4023057: Update for Windows 10 Update Service components seven days ago.

Every night I restart my computer before bed, every morning I log in. This morning the display resolution - normally 1280x1024 - was smaller when I logged in, and the desktop background - normally the generic Windows-provided blue one - was a family photo that this computer has on it, but has never before been used on it as a desktop background. The photo in question actually IS the background on my work laptop, that is never on my home network. 5/11/2021: Now I am guessing the resolution didn't change. But overnight (5/10 > 5/11), the desktop photo again changed from nothing (generic blue background) to a family photo.

Event viewer reveals nothing sketchy, though I don't really know what I'd be looking for.

    What happened?

5/11/2021: As mentioned above, it happened again overnight. I don't have my computer set to slideshow the backgrounds. My guess is that somehow the "sync your settings" was kicking in between the home desktop, and the work laptop. Even though when I restart the home desktop, the work laptop is in sleep mode. I purposefully turned "sync your settings" off today on both computers (thought I'd done that on the laptop first time it happened). Also set my home desktop to be a local account. Something I thought my work laptop had. Based on the new information, can someone tell me what's happening? Especially because it went more than a year never happening, then happened, didn't happen for four nights, and happened again.
