    Can I Delete This Nonsense?

The folder C>Windows>System32>config>systemprofile>AppData>Local contains, among other things, almost 2,700 folders with names like tw-1a48-1754-80170ca.tmp. Far as I can tell, all the folders are empty and were created this year or last year. Also, notice the 'tmp' at the end of the name. They don't seem to me to be treated as temporary.

Can I safely delete these things? I don't want to hear boilerplate stuff like they don't take much space or it's best not to mess with 'system' stuff like this. They seem to be utterly useless, and are garbage, if so. Please resist the urge to preach at me. Just a knowledgeable, definitive answer to the question at the beginning of this paragraph is all I'm looking for.

    Thanks.

So does mine and the folder is not touched by the Wise and CCleaner utilities I use. However, my temp folder is only 27MB. I guess if it was 'safe' to delete such files them such cleaners would delete them.

As long as you have a Macrium Image, you can always try, and see what happens

Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

I`m sorry I don`t have a Yes or No answer

If you can delete them, you can delete them.
If they were in use, you would not be able to.

Thanks for the answers so far.

AddRAM, I do use Reflect but don't want to have a problem to fix if I can determine ahead of time that the folders shouldn't be killed even though they seem utterly useless.

TairikuOkami, just because I'm allowed to delete them doesn't tell me that nothing will go wrong later.

You can check last time they were accessed, but they are .tmp, if any app needs them, it will recreate them.

    What is a Temporary File?

Probably more a question of which folders those programs are configured by default to inspect for tmp files- = 'the usual suspects'.

I don't happen to have such folders there, which might suggest they are related to one or more particular programs.

It's easy enough to add target folders to those to be cleaned, should you so wish.

    Hi @vanp,
I have never noticed this folder and files before. Mine are like over 1500 items but definately I won't delete anything from System32 folder even they're little disturbing.

Personally unless you found some proof they're bothersome and you're that hard up space (mine takes up 31meg out of 313gig of free space) I'd leave them alone. Never know what may need what is there.

Mine says it`s 3.97 MB if I hover over it. If I open the folder Properties it says it`s 31.5 MB

Anyone else find it strange that the 2 amounts are different ??
