    @vanp, I use CCleaner as well as Storage Sense to manage what should be cleaned once a month during the week before Patch Tuesdays in todays world. Since both my HP laptop & Dell desktop pc's still run as good as new even though they are from Windows 7 days. I make sure my PC's are well-maintained, safe & secure and operate as expected. It use to take me hours to figure that out but now it only takes about 15 minutes on both PC's. In RickC's post #69 "There are no hard and fast rules about how, when and where temporary files are created. It's always a personal decision what's safe to delete." is very helpful. I finish my monthly maintenance with a system image backup and if I remember correctly you also create system image backups. Keep the good work and happy computing.

    MeAndMyComputer and jbcarreon123, thanks for your input.

    I'll put this thread to bed over the weekend if there's nothing new to report on or discuss by then.

    @vanp
    Well thought, well said, well done.
    I remember having a book or two way back called something like Windows Annoyances. I've concluded this System32\config junk is just something I can live with and ignore. Thanks for getting the discussion going, though. It produced some very interesting reading.

    The Config junk folder I can ignore. It has some around 70~100 megabytes. This is really interesting to read and Thanks for keeping this discussion going.

    Nowadays, disk drives has 120 gigabytes to 12 terabytes of storage.

    OK, it's been another week now. The computer has been re-started maybe a couple, three times; no new folders have been created, and nothing bad has happened. Basically, RickC had it nailed in post #14. The simplest thing to do is disable the 'Logon' task in Task Scheduler and delete the folders. As far as I can tell, there's no need to mess with scripts or recurring tasks/processes. And as far as I'm concerned the matter has been settled.

    Thanks again to everybody who humored me on this issue.
