I have some old Corel Draw X4 files which it would be useful to be able to open them to read and cut and paste the text. X4 won't install on Windows 10.
I just want to access the files. I don't want to run CorelDraw. Too expensive for rare use when I can manage most things with apps such as Publisher.

A quick attempt last night failed I'm afraid. Tried both Open and Import.
In File Explorer, go to the toolbar to View and put a check box in File Name Extensions. Browse to the files created in Corel Draw, right click them and see what Extension the file has (ie) [filename].cdr Or whatever, then Google alternative apps that open those file extensions.
No luck with any of these suggestions.
Did find another option - BitRecover. The trial option allows me to open (5 files) and save then as JPEGs or not very good PDFs. There is an option of DOC or DOCX as well but doesn't work in the trial version. However this at least lets me see past content.
You should be able to import Coreldraw up to X3 into Inkscape, not sure about anything beyond that. Not perfect thuogh.

Try the draw component of LibreOffice -- it might work -- but I'm sure inscape should also work too.
If you cant get Inkscape to work on Windows try a Linux live distro or a virtual machine and install inkscape on it

Sometimes when a program won't work on latest version of Windows the Linux version (when it exists) often will as these are often maintained for much longer by developers working in the public domain.
Another solution -- use the free online converter to convert x4 files to svg (you don't lose the originals) and there's quite a few programs that can handle svg files.

I am beginning to think that the charitable historic building authority (for whom I am doing the work) will, if they want any of the booklets re-done, will have to use old copy or find a typist to recreate the digital files! The originals were produced in the day when I could justify the cost of Corel and Adobe. Now that I only do the occasional charitable item, I can't justify it. I now use Publisher of Scribus for everything. OK for most things.

Beside online converters (jimbo45 an my post above) there is also possibility to run older Coreldraw in virtual Windows environment. Since you said you have it, but won't install on Windows 10.
In virtual Windows 7 or whatever, you can either edit or convert your files to svg.
But again, try online converters
