Are you talking about these folders? . . .

    Current User:
    > %UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\

    All Users:
    > %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\

Perhaps if you post what you have in the Properties => Shortcut Tab we might see something that will help.

the only thing I noted was in security tab, both locations, everyone can read & execute except my own user name.

When you double-click on the shortcut, will you see a UAC prompt? If so, you need an elevated shortcut.

no uac prompt, it just runs the program. it just wont run autimatically on boot.
I checked perms on coretemp, which works correctly, & my user name has all perms.

this is getting irritating-I found a shortcut on the desktop with all perms for my user name-copied it to startup folder-still had exe perms-reboot-doesn't run-if I double click the shortcut it does run!

For testing purpose. Download and extract real temp to desktop.
For Windows 10, security is a little bit tighter compared to previous W7 or W8.
Copy and paste the content below and save it as a .vbs file, ex. startReal.vbs

    Code:
    Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell" )
    WshShell.Run chr(34) & "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\RealTemp_370\RealTemp.exe" & Chr(34), 0
    Set WshShell = Nothing
copy this file to either : %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
    or: %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
    Only need to copy one.

Alternately, one can also add an entry for the vbs script to:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
instead of copy to startup folder.

The Real Temp documentation at Real Temp - Documentation indicates it needs to run with
administrative privileges. Windows will not let an elevated program be started from the Startup folder.
Real Temp documentation suggests using a Windows scheduled task to run it at startup.

That's exactly what it does if you follow my post, run Real Temp with the Administrative privilege. Already tested and it worked fine in startup.

An elevated shortcut mentioned in post #4 works in the Startup folder.

i copied the script to myusername/.../startup & got error 'cant find file specified'
edited vbs script so it point straight to desktop instead of realtek 370-desktop.
copied exe to desktop, got error re ring file, copied 4 ring* files to desktop & nothing happened (except it does run if I click desktop shortcut).
I'm wondering if the problen stems from the fact that I manually installed realtemp as I could find no install file or instructions. I just created subdir under progam file (x86) & shortcuts to run it.
whats the proper way to install the thing?
It runs fine if i manually click the desktop shortcut.
