Hello @dblake2,
Are you talking about these folders? . . .
Current User
:
>%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\
All Users
:
>%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\
Perhaps if you post what you have in theProperties
=>Shortcut Tab
we might see something that will help.
those are the folders.
the only thing I noted was in security tab, both locations, everyone can read & execute except my own user name.
hoe to get myself read/exccute prive or run it as admin?
When you double-click on the shortcut, will you see a UAC prompt? If so, you need an elevated shortcut.
See: How to Add Create Elevated Shortcut to New Context Menu in Windows 10
no uac prompt, it just runs the program. it just wont run autimatically on boot.
I checked perms on coretemp, which works correctly, & my user name has all perms.

this is getting irritating-I found a shortcut on the desktop with all perms for my user name-copied it to startup folder-still had exe perms-reboot-doesn't run-if I double click the shortcut it does run!
For testing purpose. Download and extract real temp to desktop.
For Windows 10, security is a little bit tighter compared to previous W7 or W8.
Copy and paste the content below and save it as a .vbs file, ex. startReal.vbs
copy this file to either : %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartupCode:Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell" ) WshShell.Run chr(34) & "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\RealTemp_370\RealTemp.exe" & Chr(34), 0 Set WshShell = Nothing
or: %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Only need to copy one.
Alternately, one can also add an entry for the vbs script to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
instead of copy to startup folder.
The Real Temp documentation at Real Temp - Documentation indicates it needs to run with
administrative privileges. Windows will not let an elevated program be started from the Startup folder.
Real Temp documentation suggests using a Windows scheduled task to run it at startup.
i copied the script to myusername/.../startup & got error 'cant find file specified'
edited vbs script so it point straight to desktop instead of realtek 370-desktop.
copied exe to desktop, got error re ring file, copied 4 ring* files to desktop & nothing happened (except it does run if I click desktop shortcut).
I'm wondering if the problen stems from the fact that I manually installed realtemp as I could find no install file or instructions. I just created subdir under progam file (x86) & shortcuts to run it.
whats the proper way to install the thing?
It runs fine if i manually click the desktop shortcut.
