I used it till it started censoring, but what search engine does not? Still, it went down hill since then.

Personally I switched to Qwant. Reason: Settings are retained via bookmarked URL rather than stored in cookies. So no need to worry about retaining specific cookies.

    Qwant

Includes a fairly decent video search option.

    DDG has the same feature.
    Code:

It does but it uses cookies to store preferences. I still use DDG but prefer Qwant.

    Hello Jerry,

I started using Startpage maybe two years ago. Initially, I was a bit disappointed in the lack of results, but chose to stay with it.
For me personally, it serves my needs well. Again, personal opinion, but I would not hesitate to recommend it.

I will never switch back to Google (although perhaps the best search results).

Good luck with your final choice.

Some time ago I wanted to know whether a family member was still alive.
Startpage: no hit was found; conclusion; still alive.
    Google: found an in memoriam.

Each of you gentlemen above, raise valid points (if I am understanding correctly). However, to the first, the censoring can be tamed by toggling off 'Family Filter'.

To the second, Startpage also offers a way to circumvent cookies.

The problem, unfortunately (to both issues above), is that this has to be repeated with each new incident of use (opening of Startpage in a new window). It is not very convenient, I more than agree.

However, I personally do not find it an problem, for my use.

To PiKo's point, I completely agree.

Startpage is lacking, when compared to Google. I think perhaps, all other search engines are.

I use it because it suits my personal needs. But it is certainly not for everyone.

    @jerrypc1,

I suggest giving all the recommended a try for a few days. You'll find the one that best works for you. Pros and cons to everything.

    Again, good luck.
