    Why is my "Settings" icon invisible?

    Windows Version 20H2 Build 19042.928

    The Settings icon in my apps tray at the bottom of the screen is invisible. I know it's still there because I can put the mouse pointer on that spot and the square lights up, and then I can click it and it goes to settings. I just don't know why the icon isn't visible.
    BTW, I did the April CU update last night, and the Settings icon is still invisible, just as before.Why is my "Settings" icon invisible?-screenshot-43-.png
    I'm including a screenshot so you can see.

    Try rebuilding your icon cache.

    Thank you! I went with option 2, and it worked!
    I tried clicking your "Thank" button but the website won't let me. So "Thank you" again!

    Don't worry about it, your thanks above is enough

    You need to thank 10 other members before you're allowed to thank me again, and apparently you have another 8 to go......

    Hey, would you believe the problem just came back again? It's only been 2 days, and my settings icon has disappeared again. That's the only icon that this is happening with. It seems like it's a problem that's unique to the Settings icon.

    Colour scheme? Try different colour scheme(s) and see if it appears with different background.

    @Delly10,

    You may wish to try the suggestion of @Bree, again.

    And/or, Open an administrative command prompt, and copy and paste, then run, one at a time...

    #1. sfc /scannow

    #2. Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    #3. Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup.

    Never mind what the result of each command may state.

    Running command #3, may surprisingly, give you more free disk space, as well.

    Hopefully, this will resolve your issue. Also, I assure you, no harm will result from running the commands.

    If you wish to run the commands, please post back in due time, and advise to whether it resolved the problem for you.

    It may take a few minutes to complete, just be patient.

    Regards,

    Regards,
    Sorry for waiting a couple days to get to it, but I just ran those items you gave me now. They completed, but the Settings icon is still invisible. At least I know it's still there. I guess that's the main thing. Still don't understand why it keeps going invisible. Bree gave me a solution, but it only lasted a couple days. Also don't understand why this only happens to that one icon and not any others.

    @Delly10, I don't know a solution.

    But, let me summon someone who can perhaps resolve it for you. Maybe not, but rest assured, he will try.

    And good luck. I will follow along, and hopefully learn something myself.

    @Tekkie Boy, can you offer a solution for this issue, my friend?

    Delly,

    It's in the wee hours for both Tekkie boy and Bree, but Bree is up at all hours, unfortunately for him. Let's give him another shout.

    @Bree, any advice, buddy?

    My only thought is that maybe some 3rd-party tool is being used that could be tweaking the icons.
